Woody found his forever home December 6, 2021!

Updates

Woody wakes up around 6:00 AM and he and his foster mom snuggle on the couch while waiting for the sun to come up before going for his morning walk. He isn't super food motivated, so his breakfast kibble is given to him as a training exercise to work on his commands for "crate" and "place," mostly. He then hangs out while his foster family works from home, either sitting next to them at their desks or choosing to hang out on the couch away from them. We usually take a walk or play outside at lunch, then he snoozes the afternoon away. He gets a longer walk at night and then likes to play and do more training for supper.

Woody loves meeting people outside the home and is so friendly. When people enter our home, he needs to sniff them and take a few minutes to get used to them before also becoming very friendly with them.

He lived with children in his previous home but we haven't seen him with children. He does like to gently mouth people's hands and arms while playing.

Woody is happiest when he gets to run and zoom for about 20-30 minutes a day, preferably with a dog friend. He walks and jogs beautifully on a front-clip harness but pulls a lot when using a traditional collar and leash. He spends much of the day sleeping but gets a little fussy in the evenings if he hasn't had enough exercise. I think he'd do best in a home with another playful dog or a family who is committed to finding ways for him to get his "zoomies" out once or twice a day.

We've only brought Woody to see other dogs outside but he has done perfectly. He LOVES other dogs and plays very appropriately, adjusting to other dogs' body language and taking breaks as needed.

Woody has not had exposure to cats in our home but previous owner said he likes to chase them. He has shown high prey drive towards squirrels and rabbits on walks.

We crate Woody when we leave the house because he still has the puppy mischief in him and he keeps finding new things to get into.

Woody has seasonal allergies but they are well controlled by a daily allergy medication that he takes very well.

The biggest issue we are working on with Woody is his aversion to his crate. His previous owners said he likes his crate and would go in willingly throughout the day but we have not yet seen that. We are trying to train him a "crate" command but it is slow going. When crated at night, sometimes he sleeps quietly for 8-9 hours but sometimes he wakes up numerous times and whines during the night. We are hoping that with more training and consistency he will learn to love his crate.
