PUPDATE 2

Violet has been with us for a couple months and has settled into our routine and is very comfortable being part of our household. She is funny, energetic, smart, and affectionate. She still loves her walks, and now every time I ask her if she wants to go for a walk, she kisses my face and makes the most happy howling sound. Violet also loves her toys and is good at playing with them on her own, but she also loves it when someone plays with her.

About a month ago, we added a second foster dog to our house. It took Violet a little while to adapt to the change. She will resource guard and will intervene if she thinks the other dog is doing something or going some place she shouldn't be. We feed the dogs in separate areas and supervise the two at all times, and they ignore each other most of the time. When we have needed to leave the dogs alone on a couple of occasions, everything has been fine with the second dog crated.

Violet walks well with the other foster dog but has much more energy and prefers longer walks on her own. Violet is somewhat reactive to other dogs while walking, particularly if they bark at her first, and she is reactive to other dogs walking by our yard. She does not react to all dogs, though, and has met a couple dogs while walking that she liked, including a puppy who climbed all over her. Because of this inconsistency and her reaction to the other dog living in our house, we now think that Violet might be happier being an only dog.

Overall, Violet is a great dog. She is sweet and loving, and if our household circumstances were different, we'd keep her without hesitation. She has a lot of love, energy, and personality, and she will be a great addition for the right family!

PUPDATE 1

Violet wakes up with us between 6 and 7 am. We take her outside right away, but she usually doesn't have to go very urgently. She's not very interested in food or a walk right away, so she usually gets back on the couch for another hour or so. Violet eats a little dry food when she's ready. Her morning walk, usually around 8 am, has been between 2-3 miles. After that, she dozes or plays quietly while I work from home. Violet is very quiet and well behaved inside in the house. I've been taking her out for another walk at lunch, usually another 1.25 miles or about 25-30 minutes, depending on how much sniffing she does. She sleeps during the afternoon and has been eating dinner around 5 pm. We take another 2 mile walk between 6 and 8 pm. She is happy to snuggle with people on the couch for the rest of the evening, and I take her out a final time around 10:30 pm, right before she goes to bed. She is not crate-trained and prefers to sleep on the couch, where she stays all night without any issues.

Violet loves people and loves getting pets. She's very affectionate and will lean into or rest on you without hesitation. On walks, she's interested in other people but does not bark at them unless they're driving a delivery truck. Violet has no exposure to children in her foster home.

Violet's indoor energy level is low, assuming she gets enough outdoor time. Her energy level is medium-high for walking. We've been trying to walk her at least 3 times a day and up to 6 miles. I feel like she'd do more if she had the chance, and I think Violet would really, really love a fenced yard where she could run around as she pleases. Violet does well on a leash but will pull and bark if she gets excited by a rabbit, another dog, or delivery truck. We've been working on redirecting her attention with some success.

We don't have any other dogs in our house. Violet gets excited when she sees other dogs on our walks and whines when she doesn't get to say hi. She will sometimes bark out of excitement, but she has been getting better about not barking in the week we've had her. So far, she has gone on one pack walk with other Fetch foster dogs, and she was very happy. Violet behaved well around the other dogs and was happy to be walking as part of the group.

The previous owner noted that Violet was not good with the neighbor’s cat. She would do best in a cat free home.

She has done very well when left alone. We haven't left her alone for any extended periods of time, but she has been allowed to free roam and hasn't caused any trouble. She's very respectful of doors and the one gate we have up. She doesn't try to get into any food and hasn't played with anything other than her toys.

Violet appears to have some allergy to grass so her fosters work to keep her from eating it. Violet would benefit from a dental in the next 1-2 years.

Violet is an extremely sweet and loving dog with a great temperament. Even though she has been with us only a week, she has adapted well to our household. We think she thrive in a home where she gets plenty of exercise and has outside space she can explore.
