PUPDATE 3

Brave little Velveeta is back from her very first vacation to the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Vacation suits her! While she didn’t go in the lake, she did walk on the dock multiple times with me. Velveeta enjoyed her sunset walks with her best furry friend, our resident dog.

Velveeta loves exploring as much as does napping in a shady spot underneath a bush. She’s a fan of prancing behind whoever is mowing the lawn because she thinks it’s some kind of game. She is so sweet, a good snuggler and playful. Seeing Velveeta and our resident dog play in the yard is one of my favorite things to watch every day.

It is best if Velveeta is adopted by someone who has a dog which will allow her to have a buddy. She needs to continue to learn from other dogs as she’s still a puppy. Having a doggy friend to lead and teach her, as well as give her more confidence. She is waiting for you and your dog :)

PUPDATE 2

Velveeta continues on her journey towards confidence. We have seen quite a bit of growth this week. She is more playful, exhibiting a bit of boldness by exploring in the yard and spending more time with me as opposed to my husband. Velveeta keeps up with our resident dog on walks around the neighborhood. Each time she experiences something unknown we take a second to provide positive encouragement and she just trots right by the perceived barrier.

The early morning and late night brings moments of romping around in the yard followed by a full night of sleep. Velveeta has been crate trained from the beginning. She willingly goes in the crate at night and bounds out in morning to face the day and whatever it brings. Snuggling is something Velveeta enjoys and benefits from due to the two humans and their resident dog.

Soon Velveeta is going on her first vacation with us to a place on a lake. Tune back in to see if she ventured into the lake or stayed on dry land.

PUPDATE 1

Velveeta typically needs a little coaxing to emerge from the crate each morning because facing a new day brings a bit of anxiety. I have often wondered if she is a character in the movie Groundhog Day because each morning the reset button is pressed and we are back to fear of the unknown. Even though she gets comfortable throughout the day, then back to nervousness after a night of sleep. During the day she goes outside, eats and then lays on the couch for a morning nap or joins my husband for his workday under his desk. She is a big fan of hiding under things: cars, desks, bushes, tables, chairs, you get the idea.

She enjoys a couple of play sessions in the yard with our resident dog and some snuggles on the couch. Velveeta becomes playful starting around 8 p.m. and that can run for a few hours. She enjoys retrieving ALL of the toys and bones from the basket one at a time during this period. I pick them up at the end of the night and the process is repeated the following day.

Velveeta is nervous and timid, and will align with her home-base person when out and about, typically hiding behind their legs. She has no experience with children but due to her nervous nature she would do best in a quiet home.

Velveeta has been getting used to a harness and leash combo. We walk her with our resident dog. She needs more outings to increase her comfort level and may benefit from training.

She is playful with our resident dog, but that is mostly in the yard where she can run around. Velveeta is more of a low-level energy dog from what I have observed. She is curious and initiates play, but if the other dog is not interested, she will back off. Velveeta has no exposure to cats.

She is crate trained and sleeps through the night . When we leave the house we put her in the crate. I do think she has ever barked.

Velveeta has long, skinny legs so I have joked that she is a cross between a Shepherd and a deer, she also leaps in the air like a deer. She may find a successful match with a male human as she seems to prefer men. She may also benefit from a confident dog who is low-to medium energy level. She is a great pup. Each day she becomes a little more independent.
