Ursula is a sweet, playful pup, who wants to make her humans happy. She's originally from Louisiana, where she was rescued after the hurricane, and she came up with her two sisters. At first she was timid and skeptical of everyone and everything, but her confidence has grown as she's gotten more comfortable as she has spent more time here and has learned that she is safe. She is still working through some separation anxiety but the progress she has made in just two weeks is impressive. Ursula could benefit from spending more time with other dogs to learn from them, whether those dogs be in the home, at the dog park, or at doggy daycare.

She is a quick learner and knows "sit" and "leave it" and we're working on "down"... she sometimes gets stuck with her front paws down and her back end in the air. She likes to chew on her stuffed animals and ropes, and a good chewy treat can keep her occupied for a while. Ursula also likes to pick up sticks on her walks and tries to bring them in the house to chew on later.

Crate training has gone well, although she sometimes still fusses for a bit when you first put her in the crate. She sleeps in her crate at night and has not had any accidents in the crate since her very first night in Wisconsin. She sleeps for 6-7 hours at night without needing to be let out. Outside of the crate she needs to be watched if she hasn't had a recent potty break, as sometimes she doesn't let me know when it's time to go outside.

She enjoys meeting other people and dogs on our walks, although sometimes she needs a slow introduction. She currently lives with a cat and only bothers him when she has playtime in the evenings. The cat lets her know when he's not interested, and she usually leaves him alone after that.

She hasn't expressed much interest in squirrels or rabbits, and usually ignores them on our walks. She walks well on a leash but sometimes zig-zags and can end up underfoot, so a bit of leash training could help. Ursula currently lives right in the city, and sometimes all the sounds and people can be a bit much for her. She has gotten somewhat used to it and I've had no problems taking her to an outdoor patio, but still seems to prefer to be in quieter areas and has really enjoyed going on hikes.

She rarely barks unless she is unhappy about being in her crate. Sometimes she grumbles when she hears sounds coming from the hallways in our building. She will notice when other dogs bark but doesn't usually respond.

Ursula has been so easy and fun to care for, and seeing how far she has come with learning to trust and feel safe has been rewarding. Although she may need some time to settle in, I think any home would be better with her in it!
