Sweet, houndy babe, Unique is ready to find her forever family. She had a pretty rough start to life, finding herself in a Louisiana shelter at roughly just 8 weeks old. To make matters even worse, she and her sisters broke with Parvo while in the shelter. Luckily, they recovered and were back to their silly selves after a few weeks of treatment. After catching her transport to Wisconsin and a couple weeks of continuing to get healthy, she is now ready to find the loving family she so deserves.
Unique starts her day with potty and playtime with the other dogs in our home. After breakfast she will either play some more or snuggle in with you for a bit. She is crated while I work, with a couple breaks throughout the day. She does AMAZING if she is crated near you but we are still working on being crated away from us and when we leave. She will settle in after 15-20 mins of barking/whining but then will start again if she hears people moving around. For this reason, she may not do well in an apartment with shared walls. After work hours, she gets more playtime with her foster siblings in the yard and lots of snuggles from her foster people. She love being outside if we are and playing with toys in the yard.
Unique is timid at first but warms up quickly, especially if there are other pups around for her to follow the lead of. She is still young so socialization will help in shaping her interactions and building confidence with people. She has met three kids (ages 2-7) and spent about an hour hanging out with them in the yard. She was definitely unsure at first but did ok with getting pets as long as I was holding her. Once she got in the yard with the other dogs, she settled in to interacting with the kids and was pretty comfortable with the kids moving around her. She waited to approach until the kids were seated and calm so she may initially do better with kids a little bit older. She was also nervous with the neighbor kids yelling loudly and playing on the trampoline. She didn't bark but kept a lot of distance from them in the yard. She is doing better with this now that she has some time to observe that behavior but will need a patient family that is willing to work with her on building confidence. Once comfortable, she is so affectionate and wants to snuggle and give lots of kisses.
Unique does great with other pups. She is so excited to greet the other dogs in the morning that she can be a bit annoying with her in their face greetings but settles down once the excitement wears off. Being able to watch the other dogs has really helped her settle into her new foster home and build some confidence. She would do great with another pup in her forever home. She has done well eating near the other pups and sharing toys with them.
She does have a kitty friend in her foster home and has been curious about him. She has responded well to swats from the kitty if she is too excited.
Unique is a medium energy puppy. She would do great with another pup to help get her energy out or as a solo doggo with a moderately active family. She loves exploring in the yard and has discovered that playing with toys is pretty neat too. She is quiet in the crate in the car and loved the trail when we took her for a hike. We are still working on leash skills. She does ok on leash but will stop if she sees things she isn't too sure about (people, bikes, strollers). She is not a huge fan of strangers walking behind her just yet. She hasn't been barky at all, just wants to wait for them to pass before she continues on her way. Once she settles into a routine and gets more confident of her surroundings, this will easily improve.
We haven't worked too much on obedience training just yet but she has picked up on 'sit" very quickly, especially if you are holding a piece of chicken. Potty training has been going well as long as we keep her on a schedule and give her lots of chances to go out.
Unique is still very much a puppy so we crate her when we leave the house and at bedtime. As she has settled in she has become more curious and particularly enjoys stealing the remote and my cell phone off the coffee table to chew on....this girl has expensive taste. She does redirect pretty easily to a toy.
Unique is an absolute doll. She will probably take a little bit to settle into her new home and will need continued socialization, but is such a sweet and affectionate pup. She is eager to start snuggling with her forever family!
