Tater found his people on December 28, 2020!
Tater sleeps in his crate at night. He sometimes comes up in the bed to cuddle in the mornings. He wakes up and goes potty around 8am, then eats his breakfast. He tends to have a lot of energy in the morning, he will toss around some toys or get the zoomies. He gets a longer walk sometime in the morning or afternoon, depending on our schedules. He goes out with us a few other times throughout the day to potty. He eats dinner around 6 pm and spends his evenings napping on the couch or chewing his toys.
He is always very happy to meet new people, whether on a walk or in our home. When a person comes into our house, Tater will greet them at the door. He is satisfied with a sniff or lick and a short pet before his attention is elsewhere.
Tater hasn't spent extended periods of time with children. He's been happy to greet children on our walks. He has spent some time with my 10-year-old cousin for a short period and did very well. He greets children in the same way he greets adults, with a sniff and maybe a lick.
Tater is solidly a medium energy dog. He is playful when engaged, but also spends a good part of the day napping or watching out the window. He needs one good walk a day, about 2 miles, to keep his energy in check. He hadn't had much experience on a leash before he came to us. He was very excited outside and pulled hard. We've started using a prong collar and Tater's leash skills have very much improved.
He has met a handful of dogs on the leash. Tater is respectful and patient, willing to sniff them out. He has spent some time with a few other dogs in the home. He interacts with very happy, playful body language. He will engage in play for a bit, then may get distracted by a toy or another human. He is sometimes unaware of his size and strength when playing with other dogs but is easily verbally redirected.
We have not seen Tater interact with cats. In his Texas foster home, Tater lived with a cat. His foster explained he was very curious about the cat and liked to chase and investigate. For that reason, they suggested he would do better in a home without cats.
Tater is usually left free to roam in our home when we are gone. He has done very well, content to play with his toys or watch out the window. He has never had an accident in the home or gotten into anything he shouldn't.
The vet noted some tartar accumulation. Adopters should plan for a dental in the next 1-3 years.
Tater is a very happy and loving pup. He has become quite the cuddler during his time with us. We love him, but we're so excited for him to find an amazing forever family!
