Updates

Spark found his forever Dad on November 4, 2020!

PUPDATE 3

Spark has settled into the good life! He recently attended a private dog park called “My Dog and Me Park”. The two acre dog park is fenced in and let’s the pups play. Spark went with his two male doggie friends playing tag and sniffing in the tall grass.

He attends daycare at Waggin’ Tails about 2-3 days a week. Spark has always been good at making new doggie friends but daycare has really helped him learn to meet new people. The staff have commented on how he’s improving each week. We are so proud of his progress in such a short time.

Spark does not live with kids but has met them on walks. He is patient to get pets and watch them. Spark is a gentle giant in the way he delicately takes treats when offered. He enjoys treats of any kind and will even nibble on a carrot.

PUDPATE 2

Spark has really started to blossom in his foster home. He does wonderful in the bath tube for a bubble and one person can comfortably wash him up. After a bath, he runs around the house jumping for joy. Nail trims are easy to do when he’s on the couch. His nails are black but he hardly moves.

This weekend, Spark had a play date with a former Fetch dog who weighs almost 70 pounds. We learned Spark was less submissive than this new dog and tended to dominate the playtime with his much larger friend. They enjoyed playing chase and did well sharing a water bowl and toys.

PUPDATE 1

Spark is a playful, loving, and timid young dog ready for his furever home! He really is the sweetest boy with a zest for the outdoors, humans and other dogs.

He came from Louisiana back in mid-August and needed treatment for a skin infection. During the past seven weeks, he had several vet appointments for treatment and became comfortable going to the vet. Spark is a rockstar in the car. He is now cleared of infection and healthy!

A typical day for Spark starts at 6 am with a 20 minute walk around a quiet subdivision. He then gets some play time with the resident male (30 lb) dog and his toys. Breakfast is served at 7 am. Spark has no resource guarding of food and is fed next to the other resident dog. They do attempt to change food bowls but can be easily redirected to the correct bowl.

After a good play session in the morning, Spark goes down for a nap on the couch or in his crate. He is let out several times during the work day. His foster parents work from home but do crate him occasionally for a few hours at a time. He is happy with a good few toys Kong treat toy and a soft blanket in his kennel. He doesn’t make a peep in the kennel during the day. There is some minor whining when first going in the crate for bedtime but he quiets down after a few minutes.

Spark is fully potty trained and crate trained. He lives in a two story home and stairs were new to him. After some time, he learned to run up and down the stairs awkwardly. He also learned manners like no counter surfing or begging for food. Spark is really a smart boy!

He lives with an older resident dog who will play a few minutes per day but not for hours. It’s helpful that Spark can entertain himself with toys. He takes each toy out of the box and one of his favorites is a Nylabone chew toy. Spark would do well in a home with another energetic dog or as an only dog with daily walks and stimulation.

Spark is a dream on leash! This means no barking, never any pulling and generally a chill guy. He loves to watch the birds and squirrels on walks. Spark has tried going for a few runs with the humans but it’s not really his thing. He would prefer a quick walk rather than a run.

He went on a camping trip to the New Glarus Woods State Park and enjoyed the time outside. He alternated between hanging next to the warm campfire and sitting in the comfort of the tent.

Spark’s foster home does not have any children and tends to be low key. He was more comfortable with his foster mom from the beginning and took several weeks to warm up to his foster dad. He can be shy and timid of new people until he has time to blossom. Spark’s ideal home would be patient and ready to let him adjust at his own pace.

Spark can be an affectionate guy with a need to be close to his pack. He really enjoys an active lifestyle and time with his humans.
