Updates

Meet Sir Winston! He’s a lovable young shih tzu that recently was found hiding in a shed in Texas. After no one claimed him, he traveled to Wisconsin and is ready to find his forever home!

Sir Winston loves people and has been friendly with everyone he has met so far in his foster home. He loves attention! He’s been fantastic with a middle school age boy but there hasn’t been an opportunity to observe his behavior with young children. He loves to spend time with his foster family, snuggling on laps or laying close by. He also will play with some toys independently.

He lives in a multi-dog household and enjoys playing with the others. He got a little over zealous initially and would pounce on them but he has been taking their corrections well and learning to play politely. There’s also a cat in the foster home. Sir Winston mostly ignores him but sometimes thinks the cat might like to play. He is redirected easily.

Sir Winston is medium energy but does show periods of higher activity, still being a young dog. He enjoys his time outside very much! Doing zoomies in the yard and chasing birds are the best. He’s very curious about exploring the yard and doesn’t always want to come in when called. He’s food motivated so treats have helped. He likes going for walks and is pretty good on a leash, only pulls if he sees another dog close by.

Sir Winston was positive for Anaplasmosis, a tick-borne disease, in August but is not showing any clinical signs. A positive result for Anaplasmosis just indicates antibodies to this bacteria, not necessarily active infection. Per our rescue protocol, he is currently being given a round of antibiotics.

He’s done really well with housetraining, he hasn’t had an accident in the foster home and is let outside regularly. He does have separation anxiety when left alone. He barks and cries in his crate. If left out for short periods, he whines and paws at the baby gate. He will need support addressing this and would do best in a home where he wouldn’t be left alone for long periods of time. He also sleeps in a crate through the night and tolerates that pretty well if he knows someone is nearby, although he would prefer to sleep elsewhere.
