Serafima found her furever home on November 7, 2020!
Serafima was taken into rescue after her and her pups were surrendered to a Louisiana shelter by a woman who had been breeding her prior to a recent hurricane. It was found out that other dogs in the home were abandoned later on to fend for themselves so Serafima was one of the lucky ones. She is ready to put her past behind her and start her new life in Wisconsin where she will be loved and cherished.
Serafima is a sweet and spunky little girl who believes age is just a number. She is fostered with three other small dogs and is wonderful with them all. She loves to play and wrestle and keeps up just fine even though she is the oldest of them. However, she also enjoys lots of cuddle time on the couch with people and comfy blankets and is a more medium energy dog. There is a cat in the foster home too and she took a bit of time to figure him out. She does bark at him sometimes, especially if he runs or jumps but in a playful way and is easily redirected.
Serafima sleeps in a crate next to my bed and is very quiet throughout the night. She does some barking when left alone. It’s not consistent and she doesn’t have too powerful of a bark but it’s something to consider if living in an apartment. She’s done well in the crate otherwise and doesn’t get destructive. I’m not sure if she was fully house trained before getting here but she’s doing a great job with a potty schedule and even has started waiting at the back door to be let out. She enjoys walks around the neighborhood. It doesn’t seem like she had much previous experience on leash but got the hang of it quickly.
She is sweet and friendly with everyone that she’s met. She lives with a dog savvy nine year old boy and she’s been good with him but a bit shy. She is most comfortable with adults. She does have some fears related to human body language. She will cower or run away if someone is hovering over her or walking directly towards her. Because of this, she would be best suited in a home with adults and teenagers or gentle older children.
She has been diagnosed with luxating patellas, which is a very common condition in small breed dogs. It is not causing her any issues right now. The vet has recommended that she start on a joint supplement to keep her active for years to come.
Serafima’s personality is as cute as her adorable face. She’s upbeat and fun loving and can’t wait to find her forever home!
