Sequoia was found as a wandering stray, pregnant with 11 puppies, in southern Louisiana. Now that her puppies are old enough to go off on their own (and a few already found families of their own through Fetch!), Sequoia wants nothing more than a home and a family to call her own. She is currently hanging out in a multi-dog foster home and doing very well coexisting with her canine housemates. She is both crate and house trained, loves to be near her people, but also doesn’t need to be glued to your side all day either. She is very content napping in the same room you’re in while you work. She also does just fine if she’s crated for a workday and then snuggles up with you while you doom scroll in the evenings after a dinner and a walk. She’s a very laid back and go-with-the-flow kind of girl who can fit into just about any environment fairly effortlessly!
She is excellent with all humans she’s met - ages 7 and up thus far. She’s yet to meet a stranger, and just wants love and affection - and to smother you in kisses in return. She’s also an expert snuggler and would love to snuggle with you on the couch.
Fetch is Sequoia’s game of choice! She has a low-to-moderate energy level, so daycare or dog parks are not essential to her wellbeing but would do just fine in that environment if that’s your lifestyle. Really though, her ideal day is just lounging in the sun until you need to convince her to come inside and cool off before she melts! When Sequoia arrived to foster care, she struggled with playing appropriately with other dogs. But she’s worked really hard on her manners and is doing well playing with the selection of dogs she’s met in her foster home. She has a bit of a prey drive so should not live in a home with cats or other free-roaming small animals.
Currently, she is crated overnight and when home alone. She loves her crate! Due to her past, she does have an inclination to resource guard food only from other dogs, so she also eats in her crate. She’s happy to share toys and affection. Thus far, she has not shown a tendency to get into things she shouldn’t, and likely could quickly be trusted to free-roam when alone if that is your preference. She loves exploring, following her nose, and trying to race large vehicles while on leash, so we’re working on this with her. She is learning to walk on a prong collar and this is drastically improving her leash manners.
This sweet girl has been through so much the last several months, but she has known nothing but love since coming into rescue, and it shows! She can’t wait to meet you; and wiggle her way into your life!
