Meet Sebastian! If you’re looking for a big, sweet, handsome fella who loves a good balance of outside time and lazing around, he’s your dog! Sebastian is let out of his kennel between 6:00 and 7:00 a.m. He goes outside to potty and eats breakfast, then gets a long walk (40-60 minutes) at some point in the morning and chills for most of the day. He takes another evening walk (20-30 minutes) and eats dinner between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. He is crated for the night around 10:00 p.m.
Sebastian loves people and wants to meet every human he encounters. He has the sweetest disposition. He can occasionally get jumpy and mouthy when very excited, but his foster family thinks this will change with time, proper training and boundaries since he’s still a puppy.
Sebastian lives in a foster home with four kids (ages 12, 9, 8 and 8). They love to snuggle, play with and pet him and he enjoys them. He’s met some of their friends and has been very comfortable around them. Sebastian is quite large and does his best to not jump or get mouthy, but sometimes this still happens. He shouldn’t go to a house with small children unless he can be very closely supervised.
He is a medium-to-high energy dog, and loves to walk between 3-5 miles per day. That generally tires him out, and he loves to laze around the house or fenced backyard. Sebastian has zoomies sometimes, but is very mellow if he gets adequate exercise. Sebastian can pull very hard when on a leash — especially when he see cars, other dogs or people, but we’re working with him on his leash manners. He should go to a home with someone who is strong enough to manage his antics while on a walk and willing to work with him to improve his leash behavior.
Sebastian really wants to meet every dog he sees, so sometimes he gets whiny and pulls on his leash when walking. He regularly walks with two black labs and gets along great with them. We think he would truly enjoy a dog park!
He does not currently live with cats, but his foster in Texas had cats and reports that Sebastian got along with them.
We allow Sebastian to free-roam throughout the day. He does not chew on things he shouldn’t (well, maybe one sock) and loves his dog toys. Sebastian sleeps in his crate at night with no issues and is very occasionally crated for long periods during the day as well. He’s great indoors!
Sebastian is very intelligent and can be stubborn. He can slip out of his collar or harness if he really wants to, so a martingale collar is recommended. Sometimes he doesn’t want to go inside when the weather is gorgeous. Can you blame him? He needs lots of prompts and treats on these occasions. He has a gorgeous, fluffy, soft coat! He should go to a home with someone who is physically able to care for a large, growing dog, and willing to brush and groom him regularly. Sebastian is currently on meds for some gastrointestinal issues and an infection in his neuter surgery incision that were discovered when he came up north. The vet says his tummy troubles and infection should clear up quickly and he does not need any long-term medications (other than the usual flea-tick and heartworm preventatives).
The vet also noted that Sebastian has a hindlimb abnormality and should take joint supplements to promote joint health as he ages. It will be important for him to maintain a healthy weight.
