Rosy sealed the deal with a new family on September 5, 2020!
Rosy has not had an easy start in life but she always has a smile on her face and a wiggle in her butt when she sees you. She came up from Louisiana where she lived outside with her littermates for the first four months of her life. It turned out she brought ringworm with her to Wisconsin. She took her quarantine away from my resident dog in stride and quickly became acclimated to being in her crate most of the time and the stinky lime sulfur baths that were part of her treatment. She was so sweet and patient and kept her crate clean. We’re working on potty training now that she’s out of quarantine and free to run around the house. She’s had some accidents but seems to be doing better lately.
Rosy gets up around 6:30 am and goes outside right away before eating breakfast. If I’m at home for the day, she’ll run around in the yard for a little while before plopping down to nap at my feet while I work. I let her outside every few hours to make sure she has plenty of opportunities to go potty and not have accidents in the house. After more playing and sleeping throughout the day, she eats dinner around 6:30 pm and we go for a walk or she plays in the yard some more before turning in for the night.
She loves chewing on hard toys and soft rubber toys and loves playing fetch with her special squeaky piggy toy in the backyard. She also loves to snuggle and get belly scratches and follow me around. She always comes trotting around the corner with a bright smile and excitement in her eyes.
She’s picking up commands fairly quickly with plenty of treats on hand for motivation.
She can be left crated while I go to work for a full day. She sometimes goes in willingly and other times needs a little coaxing with some treats.
Rosy is a medium energy pup. She loves to run around and play with my dog but can also be pretty chill and snooze in her dog bed while we watch tv at night.
I haven’t seen her with many dogs besides mine yet (because of the ringworm quarantine during treatment) but she has responded well to the few she’s met.
She tends to be submissive when she plays with my resident dog but sometimes shows him who’s boss by outrunning him and pouncing on him to get him to play with her.
My cat stays separate from the dogs, so Rosy has only seen her from behind a gate. She growled and barked at the unknown creature but I think would sniff her curiously if given the chance to interact.
She just can’t contain her puppy excitement when I come home or when my boyfriend comes over. We’re still working on not jumping on people and a few squirts of a water bottle tend to deter her pretty quickly. Because of this, she should be monitored when interacting with children. I haven’t seen her with kids but I imagine she would do fairly well after the initial excitement and jumping
Rosy can be a little nervous with loud noises and will come running back inside when she hears a dog barking in the distance or a loud motorcycle going by.
Rosy is still a puppy so I do crate her when I leave the house. She has done well in the crate during the day while I’m away and at night and settles in pretty quickly. She will bark some when I first leave and when I come home before I let her out
She needs some work with leash walking but I’m confident with regular training she’ll do quite well
Rosy will make a great addition to her future family’s home. She’s a sweet and loving little girl who has already overcome a lot in her short life so far.
