Dot found her family on August 4, 2020!

Sweet, Spunky Dot is ready to find her forever family!  She is a pretty typical puppy and tackles every day with curiosity, zest and enthusiasm.  We can't help but laugh at her silly puppy antics, from drinking with her paws in the water bowl to relentless efforts to become besties with the other dogs that aren't nearly as interested.

Dot has loved all the people she has met and readily approached for attention. Like most pups her age, her attention span is short and she is easily distracted but often checks in with the people for some quick snuggles between bouts of chase and play with toys.  She has met three kids (ranging in age from 2-7) and did great.  She did jump up on the youngest one and does have sharp puppy teeth so I would suggest close monitoring with younger kiddos.  Otherwise she was very comfortable with the kids running around her and interacting with her.

She loves all of the other dogs she has met.  She can be a little in the face with other pups but she is just so darn excited she can't control herself.  When they tell her to back off she takes the hint but will continue her attempts at friendship with a more submissive approach.  She has done well sharing toys with the other dogs and is fine being fed in the same area as other dogs, though she shoves her whole head in the food bowl when she eats, so other pups haven't really had the opportunity to try and take her food.

She does have a kitty in her foster home.  She was really excited to make friends, but after one stern correction from the kitty, she has learned to keep her space.  She would be fine with a cat as long as both humans and kitties set boundaries for her.

Dot loves to play and like most puppies her age has some energy to burn.  Spurts of play are followed by big puppy crashes.  She gets most of her energy out right now by playing with other pups and running in the yard.  She definitely still needs a lot of work on leash.  She gets spooked by things very easily (dogs barking in a house, a person running by, etc) and will panic and try to back out of the collar.  Walking her for regular exercise and pottying outside would be very difficult at first, so she may transition best to a home with a yard that allows for exercise and potty opportunities while you work on leash walking.

We are still working on potty training and crate training.  During the day (while I work) she is crated in the same room with me.  We do give several breaks a day to potty and stretch.  She whines in protest for a few minutes but then settles in for some snoozes.  Right now she is getting a potty break every 2-3 hours which is appropriate for a pup her age.  After work, she gets lots of play time outside to decompress from the day, dinner and then snuggles before bed.  She is crated at bedtime and settles in after a few minutes of making her case for being a bed dog.  She is quiet through the night and rarely needs a potty break.

Dot is still a puppy so she needs to be crated when we leave or when she is unattended.  If she isn't, she will have potty accidents and find things to chew on.  Can't really blame her since she is still working on growing adult teeth. She does redirect pretty easily to puppy appropriate chew toys.

Dot is sweet and playful and everything you could want in a pup.  She will need continued training work (as do all puppies) but what a gem of a pup you will get in return.
