Roscoe found his home on August 23, 2020!

PUPDATE 2:

Roscoe has had a lot of interactions with people in the last couple weeks that have allowed us to learn more about him. Initially, we thought he was being shy around my dad because of smaller fears and just being uncomfortable in a new environment. We feel now that it is a little more serious.

Roscoe needs very slow introductions with men in order to work his way up to feeling comfortable around them. In some situations Roscoe allows new men who approach slowly to be near him, but sometimes he reacts aggressively out of fear when they approach too fast. He also sometimes growls at men passing by on walks, especially when it's dark out. When he is afraid he reacts by growling and barking, but he doesn't charge or bite.

This is not to say that Roscoe can't be around men at all. He is VERY capable of adjusting to men he sees often by taking things very slowly and at his own pace. His main comfort factors that help him through his instinct to be afraid are women (in this case, me and my mom) and other dogs. He trusts us completely and is learning to trust my dad more and more every day.

After he started trusting my dad, his personality around us all blossomed. Fun things we learned about Roscoe is that he absolutely loves walks, he does spins when we pull out the leash! He also loves stuffed toys, chewing on bones, and tug of war. Time has only proved further how much he loves and does well with other dogs, especially big dogs. He is a very curious and cuddly puppy that follows you around wherever you go! He'll make a great dog for a family despite his fears because we know that he still WANTS to trust men and simply needs them to be patient with him as he adjusts!

PUPDATE 1:

Roscoe wakes up when his people do and goes out to pee. He eats a little bit in the morning. Then he spends the day either napping or playing with our resident dog Jack. We take him on walks in the evening which he gets so excited for! After he gets back, he has dinner and then plays some more before going to bed. He sleeps on his own bed in our bedroom and sleeps through the entire night. Roscoe loves his people and likes to follow you around throughout the day.

He gets along well with all people, although he takes a little more time to trust men. He is generally a little nervous around any new people at first and takes some time to adjust. It's important that new people who want to meet him are calm and gentle, so he learns to feel more comfortable and safe. Our house has a 13 and 19-year-old and he loves both!

Roscoe spends the day cycling between playing and sleeping. We would say he has a medium energy level. He matches the energy in the house, but also is able to keep himself entertained with toys and our resident dog when he wants to play. He does very well on a leash, but he tugs a little when he sees rabbits or other small animals. We prefer to walk him with a harness.

He loves dogs and trusts them before people! He has grown up his whole life with another dog in the house. He gets excited seeing other dogs on walks as well. We are not sure how he does with cats. In Texas, Roscoe grew up with a bigger dog named Geronimo and they were best friends! When he came to our house, our resident dog Jack was very essential in helping him fit into our house. Roscoe loves to play and take naps with Jack, they're inseparable. We feel that Roscoe would love to go to a house with another dog, especially a bigger one he can rough around with! We like to say that Roscoe is a big dog in a little body.

We have noticed that he is a little food possessive, so we feed him separately from our resident dog. He is fine sharing toys/beds/anything else and LOVES playing tug of war with Jack.

Roscoe cries in the crate a little bit at first then eventually settles in. We haven't really left him alone often because of quarantine. He doesn't spend time in rooms alone because he is always either with Jack or us, and when we keep him outside alone, he whines at the door. We suspect he has a little bit of separation anxiety due to his clinginess, but not in a destructive way.
