Shephard found his family on August 20, 2020!
Hi! My name is Shephard. I'm the cutest and spunkiest golden. I sleep in my crate every night, and I get up around 6:30 am when my foster dad gets up to eat my breakfast. I go outside, and then come back in and lay under the desk in my foster mom’s office. I play with my foster sibling for a bit, but typically chew on toys and sleep. I go for a walk in the mornings around 8:30-9 am, depending on the day. I like to go for a one-mile walk! I’m not the best walker, I like to zig zag, but I’m just so interested in everyone and everything so it’s just so hard! I don’t pull very much, but I don’t want straight either! I would like to wear a harness while I’m learning how to walk better and would love to practice! I typically just hangout all day, sometimes run around and sometimes nap. I'm a pretty chill dog.
I am pretty nervous about other people initially. I haven't really had a stable life, and so when I meet new people, I get kind of scared. It’s likely that when you first meet me, I won't come up to you right away so you'll have to be patient with me. I like people a lot though! I love laying by them and really want them near me! I'm super curious of people and things, I just need to build up the courage to start meeting them first.
All around, I am a medium energy dog. I do like to play sometimes during the day, but I also do a lot of resting. When I am playing, I like to chew on things I’m not supposed to. My foster mom keeps a real good eye on me so I haven't caused any damage. I am constantly picking up shoes and clothes on the floor and will also chew on any wood chairs that are near me. It is best that I am watched very closely as I learn to feel more comfortable in my new family’s home. Also, I will need lots of bones to chew because I love toys so much!! (FYI I like Kong treat toys, bones, chews, tennis Balls, and ropes)
I do well with other dogs, I have met a bunch on walks and I’m a bit scared by them, but I have gotten braver! I don’t bark much unless they are barking at me. Barks can scare me and make me really upset so I will need a hug from my parent. Speaking of hugs, I love to lay my head on you, near you, or under you whenever possible. I would appreciate a family that lets me on the couch so that we can have a big snuggle puddle, although it’s not required. I like to lay on my foster parents’ bed, even though they typically don’t let me up there.
I cannot be left alone because I will chew everything. I am not crate trained, so my foster parents have to pick me up and put me in the crate. I sit in the crate for roughly 2 hours at a time, twice a day to learn to like the crate more. I can't have anything in it because I’m really upset about being in there. I sleep in it and cried the first few nights but have done much better. I would like if I could sleep in the room so I can see you but leaving me in another room is fine too. I am mostly potty trained, but I did have two accidents in the house recently within an hour span when another dog was over. My foster parents aren't sure why because I am really good about holding it. They think I was being sassy because the other dogs were playing without me. Anyways, I hope that I can play with other dogs at my forever home, whether in the house or at dog parks because I really like to play!
I am a really loving dog, and I want to be someone’s best friend. I will need attention fairly regularly and don’t want to be left out of things! I am a very special dog who deserves a really great family who can provide me the patience and grace I need to be the best dog ever. Let me know if you want to come see me and I’ll be waiting!!
