Updates

This little man found his family on November 24, 2020!

Rocco wakes up in his crate and patiently waits for his people to get up and feed him around 7:00am. He then goes outside and plays with his resident dog sisters for a bit, before coming in to watch the human kids finish breakfast (hoping for dropped food, sitting nicely with the other dogs). Rocco then lays down next to his human mom much of the day while she works, taking a couple of play breaks, then going for an afternoon walk with hopes of seeing a neighbor dog! Rocco rarely barks and greets most visitors with a tail wag and a lick. After some after-school playtime and dinner, Rocco cannot wait to hop up on the couch to snuggle with his humans for some relaxation before his bedtime treat, then back to his crate for a full night of sleep.

He is a friendly and lovable dog! His favorite thing is to snuggle up on your lap and just hang out. Rocco doesn't jump up on visitors, but will greet them with a lick.

Rocco does well with children. He will go to the window and wait for his human kids' bus to come home each day and loves to greet them in the front yard! He really likes crawling into their laps whenever possible but does not jump up on them.

Rocco enjoys running and playing in the fenced-in yard, but also does well on a tie-out. He listens well and comes when called. He is learning leash manners and enjoys walks and runs on a lead. He has not yet mastered "heel-up" and needs frequent reminders to walk nice. I would consider his energy level to be moderate. He likes to play and be social, but will happily take a break with a bone or toy into his crate for some relaxing alone time.

While he loves running around the yard with his dog sisters, he would also make a great first dog and would probably be just as happy with all the human attention. He does well with the alpha-dog in the house, and also plays nicely with the other young pack member. He greets unknown dogs with hesitation; once he sees them as friendly, he will happily greet with excitement. He has not shown aggression towards any dog, known or unknown, while in our home.

He ignores the cats (but sometimes looks at them longingly......begging them with his eyes to come cuddle with him), allows them to be near and rub against him, and does not chase.

Rocco is still in a chewing phase, so he is crated when there are no humans home. He has some separation anxiety and benefits from being in his crate when left alone. He will chew other things if unattended.

Rocco will go up and down a few steps to get in and out of the house, but he will not go up or down a full staircase--even when the other dogs or kids are on another level. Rocco is well mannered and stays in his seat or in the back of the SUV, but doesn't seem to really enjoy car rides. Overall, Rocco is a great family dog!
