Meet Gretzky! This big, delightful, ball of floof is ready to find his forever home!
Gretzky is a very typical, 3 month old puppy. He spends his days practicing crate training, playing in the yard with his foster siblings, getting lots of snuggles and cuddles from his foster family and emptying out the toy box.
He loves meal times but isn't thrilled about sharing his kibbles so we are working through some food guarding. The food guarding has only been noted with humans but could be present with other dogs that try to eat out of his bowl. The foster pups are currently fed with some space between them and we don't allow the other pups in each other's space while they eat. Due to this, we have been working on training with him and he is picking up commands very quickly. He is very food motivated so that definitely helps. He already knows sit, down and we have been working on working on wait to build his impulse control.
Gretzky is a pretty friendly guy. In a home setting, he is very interested in meeting people and LOVES being scooped up for snuggles and so he can give 5,457,654,665 kisses. If he is overwhelmed in a busier environment, he may sit back a bit but warms up very quickly, especially with food incentives. Gretzky has met several neighborhood kids (ages 5-10) and while initially overwhelmed with all the kids rushing at him, he settled in over just a few minutes and was comfortable being handled by the kids. He was more interested in the older kids (8-10 years) that were more calm and stationary. He can be a mouthy guy still since he is busy growing teeth so should be supervised with younger kids.
He currently has three other pups in his foster home; two adult dogs and another puppy about his same age. He plays mostly with the other puppy. He gets excited when the older dogs come outside for playtime but he is still more interested in his people so is fine with giving the other dogs space. He would do fine with or without another pup in his home.
There is a kitty in Gretzky's foster home. He has done well as he seems pretty disinterested in the cat. Especially being so young, I don't foresee any issues with Gretzky have cats in his forever home.
Gretzky gets most of his energy out playing with the other pups in his home. He loves wrestling and playing chase in the yard. He is a medium energy guy that likes long naps after play time. We are practicing leash skills and he has done hikes about 1.5 miles. He does much better with another dog to walk with and when walking solo, he can get distracted. He does well in the car (crated) and is always up for an adventure, so he would be a great pup to take on adventures to parks, hiking trails or outdoor patios (once able to do so).
Gretzky isn't left alone too often these days but when we do leave, he needs to be crated as he is still very much a puppy. He will chew on cords, shoes, scraps on the floor, etc so will need to be closely monitored. We practice crating while I work (crated in the same room) and he stays quiet/settled for up three hours before he needs a break. He will fuss if I leave the room but settles back in when I return. He settles in quickly at bedtime (crated in our bedroom) and is quiet through the night up to six hours or so.
We have loved having this sweet, adorable pup with us and know he will bring lots of love and puppy kisses with him to his forever home!
