Adopted on November 24, 2020!

Riley gets up with our other dogs about 5:30 or 6:00am. He is taken out immediately. He eats in his crate and the goes back out to poop. Riley goes every time he eats! He plays around with me or the other dogs for 30-60 minutes. We go for a mid-morning walk of about 2 miles. Riley is the best dog on a leash I have ever had! Amazing for a puppy. He walks right next to you. He naps or lays on his blanket in the corner while I am working. He likes to be in the room I am in. He spends time chewing and playing appropriately with toys. Riley would enjoy a puzzle treat toy. Some days we walk again in late afternoon. He eats at noon and again at 6 pm. Riley is more active in the afternoon and evening. He crates at night but would not be a good crate for 6-8 hours kind of dog. He does well for 2-3 hours. He needs a toy or something to do in the crate.

Riley barked at people at first but now eagerly greets people. He does not typically jump on people and we have rewarded him for sitting. He could learn ‘place’ well when people come in. There is a fear of the unknown that has diminished with trust and time.

He loves my 4 year old grandson. Riley does not jump on him but does love to lick and nibble on him. We are working on the “gentle” command to curb the puppy nibbles.

Riley is an active dog but a calm dog. He loves to walk and loves to play fetch. He will need activity because I do note the inappropriate chewing is much less when he has had appropriate activity to burn up energy. He is almost potty trained. If he has an accident, it is always by the door.

Riley plays well with my 1.5 year old Chihuahua/terrier mix and my 8 year old golden retriever. He is very respectful of the golden retriever and her desire for short play periods. The younger dogs need time out occasionally as their play can get rough. Typical puppy play. He perks up at other dogs on walks but when I say, “Leave it” he moves on. I do not see any dog aggression.  No cat experience that we know of.

He crates well for 2-3 hours at a time and is SUPER excited when you get home. I’m not sure he has ever spent extended time alone.

Riley is a great, fun loving dog. He is eager to please and like to hang out with you but not have to have your constant attention. He learns quickly and would be a good for a beginner dog owner. He would benefit from other dog interactions at dog parks or with friends if he is the only dog. Riley needs trust and kindness.
