Updates

Riley sleeps in his crate at night and wakes up around 7:30am each day. He gets his breakfast in his crate before going outside for a potty break. After coming in he loves to zoom upstairs for some wiggly bed snuggles with his humans. In Riley's ideal world, he would love to sleep in the bed with his humans, but he has a tendency to chew on things he shouldn't and so while he works on that puppy behavior, he sleeps in his crate. He would happily sleep in a crate in your room while you sleep.

During the day Riley loves finding every single dog toy in the entire house and piling them on whatever piece of furniture he's resting on. This typically is the couch in my office at home. He is pretty self-sufficient for a couple of hours - keeping himself occupied with a mountain of toys. I just have to make sure he hasn't found anything he shouldn't be playing with, because to him everything is a toy.

About noon we take a trip outside for a potty break and Riley loves to zoom around the yard with the other dogs. He loves playing chase with the other dogs, and also loves to play fetch with toys or a ball.

He spends his afternoon napping in the mountain of toys he perfected in the morning, tired from his morning job of finding every toy possible.

Riley then goes out again about 4pm for a potty and play break. In the evening, Riley likes to hang out nearby while we cook dinner, finding all of the dog toys possible in the living room to make sure he plays with every single one. He normally then passes out on the couch while we watch TV before going to bed in his crate about 10pm. He fusses for a minute or two in his crate since he sleeps in a different room from us and likes to let us know he would prefer to be close by. He normally does wake up about 3am to fuss again realizing hes alone, but settles down pretty quick to finish the nights sleep. This has been getting better with routine but will need support in his forever home.

Riley is just a little shy when first meeting people inside and outside, normally approaching to give sniffs, but not sticking around long, once people sit down though, Riley circles back around to say hello and get pet. Once he has met someone though and gotten a treat, he is your best friend and would like to be a lap dog, giving lots of snuggles. Hes not jumpy on new people, but he does like to enthusiastically greet people he does know by jumping up and giving face licks if you let him.
Riley does like to howl out the window at people who come near the house but is quiet once they come inside.

Riley has had no exposure to children.

Riley is medium energy. He likes to play with his toys, but is ready for a good nap after a 20 minute play session in the yard. He loves to run with other dogs or play fetch and after several laps of the yard he is ready for a break. Two to three 20 minute play sessions in the yard a day is what keeps Riley happy. On leash, Riley likes to make sure he sniffs everything possible, but luckily is small so he doesn't have the strength to take you for a walk.

Riley loves all other dogs. He is submissive to other dogs and does well when they tell him to leave them alone, but also LOVES dogs that will play and chase with him. Inside he loves toys but does well if another dog takes his toy and is not possessive, outside he is the same way. He is not picky about other dogs.

Riley currently lives with 2 dog savvy cats. He does find them very interesting and wishes they would play with him more, but he’s not too pushy and leaves them alone for the most part. When the cats run away he does like to chase, but he is small and as long as the cats have a place to jump up on, he cant get to them and will walk away in defeat. He would love a cat friend that would snuggle with him.

In Riley's perfect world, his humans would be around 24/7, but he does find it super exciting when you return after being gone. Riley should be crated or kept in a small puppy-proof area while you are away. He whines for a minute or two when you leave but then settles down for a nap in his crate. He is happier if he gets to be crated near other dogs. If left alone with access to the house, Riley may have an accident and will chew on things he shouldn't.

Riley is a fantastic puppy - at 7 months old he still has some puppy behaviors, but he is looking for a family that would love snuggles and playing with him. He could be great for a first-time dog owner. He is a little hesitant meeting new people but warms up so quickly and is looking for a forever cuddle buddy. At 30 pounds, he thinks he is the perfect size lap dog, and while he is a mystery terrier mix that will stay pretty small, I love that he looks like a mini German Shepard puppy. He would be happy to have other dog and cat siblings, but he would also be totally content being your only pet.
