Updates

Alpine, we call her "Allie", wakes up for a quick outdoor potty break between 3-5a and then wakes up for real around 7a to enjoy breakfast and a walk or outside time. After a little play and human interaction, Allie usually settles in for her first nap of the day. Currently, Allie is heading out for potty breaks every 2-3 hours with playing, outside time and napping in between. We are filling her bowl with puppy kibble in the morning and evening, and she enjoys it at a leisurely pace and often keeps some for later. Allie starts getting into night mode around 8 or 9p and then takes her final outdoor potty break around 11 at which time we leave her in her gated area to sleep. She did not do well in the crate and instead of further traumatizing her, we decided to let her sleep in a safe space on her own. She prefers a cool floor, usually under a counter, table, or couch.

Allie appears to love all humans, big and small, male or female but will often trot off after passing humans of male persuasion.

Allie is calm, sweet, quiet and responsive with all humans, great and small. She'll snuggle in with children just as quickly and enthusiastically as adults.

Allie has adjusted very quickly to wearing a collar and walking on leash. Not gonna lie, she prefers to walk alongside, off leash but can be great running back home on leash or if following her favorite people. She is smart, loyal, and very easy to read.

Allie has gone nose to nose with every dog she's met. She shows zero hesitance with dogs 10 times her size and generally doesn't extend any effort with dogs who don't have any interest in her.

Allie has had no exposure to cats.

Allie has done great on her own. Occasionally she'll whine if she wants to play or snuggle but otherwise we'll leave her be to chew on toys, sleep, or eat. Although she eats more when we're in the room, so she might be a social eater.

Allie is an eager learner. She's gotten her bearings right away and has stayed firmly inside her yard without straying. She is mastering "sit" and "shake" and responds extremely well to positive enforcement like hearing "good job" while running on leash and getting her favorite Charlie Bear treat when returning inside from a potty break. She has been a dream napper on long car rides and has quickly settled in and learned the ropes at grandma and grandpa's house. She is constantly looking to us for affirming words, clear body language and tone. Allie is going to make someone who would like a big dog, very happy.
