Updates
Reba generally wakes me up around 6 a.m. She goes outside a couple times before I leave for work, eats her breakfast and then hangs out/plays with my dogs. I have a friend let the dogs out midday. When I get home from work, we go for a walk, she eats and we hang out for the evening. She sleeps on the dog bed in my room or in the family room. Reba enjoys running around the back yard or running the fence with the neighbor dogs. Two walks a day or a run would probably be best for her puppy energy
There have not been any issues with Reba and people, whether inside or outside the house. She is happy, friendly and loves everyone she meets. It only takes a short time for her to get over any initial shyness.
Reba spent a couple hours with my 1-1/2 y.o. granddaughter and did great!! She didn’t seem nervous around her at all - actually sought her out. Her ears were up, tail wagging and she kept wanting to give her kisses.
I would say Reba’s energy level is medium. She loves running in the yard with my dogs and looks forward to walks. She does well on leash, but sometimes weaves and gets tangled up with my other dogs. She will sit nicely while getting her collar, leash and sweater on. She settles down quickly and will want to snuggle with her people or my dogs, especially if belly rubs are an option.
Reba loves my dogs and seeks them out to play, wrestle or snuggle with. She looks to other dogs if she’s unsure of what to do and will follow their lead. She is submissive with dogs whether inside or outside and will lay at the fence until the MUCH smaller dogs engage her to run the fence.
Reba does well with my cat and really seems to like her. However she gets too excited around her, barking and jumping around until she scares the cat into hissing at her.
When left alone, Reba will do well for a while and then start getting into trouble - counter surfing, getting into the cat's food, chewing things up or having accidents. I think she needs to be challenged with puzzles or games to keep her focused on appropriate behavior. She tests me - as she’s doing something inappropriate, she will look at me as if waiting for a reaction or will just sit down.
I think Reba will be an awesome dog. She will do well with more structure, routines and challenges. Unfortunately with my work schedule, I don’t have as much time to work with her as would be beneficial.
