Updates
Buster is a fun-loving, happy-go-lucky, sweet and curious boy. He loves his people and he will be your best buddy.
A typical weekday for Buster: when I get up around 6am, I let Buster out of his crate to go out and potty. When he comes back in, he goes back in his crate while I get ready for work. When I'm ready, I let him out of his crate and he gets breakfast. Buster loves to eat! I let him outside again a short time later to do...additional business. I work from home a couple days a week and my significant other works from home exclusively so Buster stays out of his crate all day. Buster spends the day napping, playing with one of our resident dogs and he likes to chew on an elk antler. He has shown some interest in toys. He does not destroy toys or shown any signs of agression or being possessive. He gets let out periodically during the day to potty and play. When our workday is over, we will either take him for a walk or let him go outside to run around and will walk him after dinner. He gets dinner between 5:30pm-6pm. The evening is spent lounging. Right before bed, he goes out to potty. At bedtime, he goes in his crate without a fuss and sleeps all night without a peep. I'm sure he would happily share your bed with you though if you let him :)
Buster loves people. He does get excited to meet new people and tends to jump up on them. We are working on this, but his training will need to continue. He is doing a lot better not jumping up on us, but will occasionally do so when he gets excited.
Buster has done great with our resident dogs and did well when my parents brought over their dog. Buster enjoys playing with our younger resident dog and is respectful of our older resident dogs who are not as interested in play. They all get along really well.
Buster has not been around cats or kids in our care.
Buster is a medium energy dog. He likes to be active, but also likes his naps. He will need at least one good walk a day, but would welcome more. He enjoys running around our fenced-in yard with our younger resident dog. He has shown some interest in playing fetch. Buster has not been to a dog park or doggy daycare in our care, but I believe he would do great and would really enjoy those things given his social personality.
Buster tends to pull on leash and gets excited when he sees people and dogs. He is also very curious and likes to see what's going on around him. We have been working on his leash manners, but he will need continued training. A no-pull harness and obedience class would be beneficial.
We have not left Buster alone yet. If we did, we would crate him. I think he will eventually be fine left out alone to roam free, but he has shown interest in counter-surfing so he will need to learn that boundary. He has been doing really well with keeping his paws off the counter. I would suggest not leaving food out to help deter this behavior or blocking access to the kitchen if he's home alone. He has not shown any signs of destructive behavior in our care.
Buster will sometimes bark when he hears (or thinks he hears) a random noise or sees people and/or dogs out the window. He has a loud, deep bark. He listens pretty well when I tell him to stop barking.
Buster is doing well learning new commands and tricks. He is an expert at sit and lay down. He is doing really well coming when called. We are working on "leave it" and "stay." Buster seems to be pretty smart and picks up on things quickly. He learned how to shake just after showing him a few times!
Buster is potty trained and has not had any accidents in our house. He pees right away when let out.
Buster likes his crate and will even go in it just to take naps. He sleeps in it all night without making a peep.
A mass was found on Buster's left hindlimb at the vet's office in January. Further testing showed no concerning cells. The vet recommended that Buster have lots of cushioning when laying down and for his foster home/future adopter to monitor the size and level of discomfort. Buster was also positive for Anaplasmosis, a tick-borne disease, in January but is not showing any clinical signs. A positive result for Anaplasmosis just indicates antibodies to this bacteria, not necessarily active infection. Per our rescue protocol, he is currently being given a round of antibiotics.
Buster is just a happy guy who will love you to death. He will enjoy getting fresh air with you and snuggling on the couch or in bed. He sometimes thinks he is a lap dog despite his size. Buster will make for a great addition to a family who will love him as much as he will love you.
