Updates

This little pup has adapted well to my schedule and hours. We go to bed in the window of 12:30-1:30. She sleeps in bed with me, throughout out the night, until about 6:00. Then she wakes me up with kisses and I take her out to go potty. We come back in and will sleep a while longer. Some mornings she won't wake up until 8:30ish. She has play and exercise time until she eats her 1st meal at 10:30. After brunch, she hangs with the big dogs some more until potty time. She gets busy then runs around some more with the other dogs. She takes cues from the older dogs very well. She won't jump and get in my boy Rex's face as she knows he doesn't tolerate that. She learned very quickly. Her cautious and gentle demeanor helped with this. She'll come back inside and we work on commands and more play; if she's tired she naps. On days that I work she is crated with her kong for chewing. Then she gets her 2nd meal at about 10:00 PM. Post-food potty and more playtime followed by a walk. Once inside, if she isn't messing with the big dog she comes to us for cuddles.

She loves to bring people toys, balls, or sticks. She lets strangers pet her on walks and is happy around her good people. There is never a shortage of kisses to show her love. She'll sit on your lap or snuggle right beside you. She has learned how to stay warm under blankets.

Pound Cake has not had exposure to kids while in my care.

She is a typical puppy: part play, part naps, and part teething (chew toys). Her needs are balanced at this stage and she benefits from a structured daily routine. She would be great for any level of dog owner who is ready to plan around her needs. She's young and won't take long to adapt to her new family’s schedule.

Pound Cake is relatively submissive and cautious with dogs. It was said she didn't rough house as much as her siblings but she LOVES to play with my other foster, Birdi. She reads other dogs well, like my resident dog, and is not overly intrusive where she is not welcomed.

I have two cats that I have exposed her to and she does well. She is interested but then becomes distracted by the cat toys or scent of their food. I think she would be great in a home with cats.

Pound Cake is crated with her kong when we leave and it takes a little bit for her to quiet and calm down. If you are still inside she is more noisy, but if you have left the house she stops talking or whining. Overall, I’d say about 80% of the time she will go into her crate on "kennel" command. She has been eating in her kennel as well for positive association.

As is common for a puppy her age, potty training continues - for the past 4 days she has not had any accidents. Prior to that she would occasionally have an "oopsie." She has acclimated to the Wisconsin weather with the help of her sweater and the jacket she wears. Before she would piddle by the door because she didn't want to go outside in the cold. Pound Cake is let out when she wakes up, 15 minutes after food, and every couple hours. If there is a time she needs to go she will let us know by standing at the door. When outside we use command "Go Potty" to refocus her from play to doing her business and it works wonderfully.

Pound Cake has right inferior eyelid entropion AKA her lower eyelid turns inward causing frequent tearing and sometimes irritation. She completed an antibiotic ointment course to ensure no conjunctivitis (pink eye). She now has artificial tears to reduce irritation daily when needed. I have only given that to her a few times thus far. It doesn't seem to affect her much. Surgery was not recommended by the vet until of age 1 or older if the condition has not already resolved itself by then.

Pound Cake is waiting to meet her furever people. If you can provide her with the attention, time, and love she needs, let Fetch know, we'll be here training and waiting for you!
