Updates

Sweet and spunky Pecan is ready to find her forever family. She has a ton of personality packed into a tiny, 9 lb package and sure loves to be the boss. She is a 4 month old yorkie/doxie mix that seems to think she resides in a great dane sized body.

She may be just a little cautious when meeting someone new but warms up quickly and loves when the humans fawn over her. She loves to be the center of attention. She hasn't spent an extended amount of time with kids but she has met grade school-aged kids on walks. She wasn't super concerned with them until one kid started bouncing a basketball right next to her. She may just need some time to adjust to the activity that comes along with kids so would probably do best with kids that take direction well.

Overall she is good with other pups. She gets excited to meet them and tries to engage in play. With the other two puppies she is fostered with, she will quickly stand up for and assert herself, even though they are twice her size. She is still learning to share toys as she has a bit of “only child” syndrome when it comes to that. She seems more submissive when meeting older/bigger pups and has done really well with the two adult dogs in her foster home. She loves playing chase in the yard and trying to outrun her puppy friends. She has two kitties in her foster home and is very interested in them. She mostly just wants to play with them but can get pouncy and will chase them if they run. She could do ok with a cat in her home but would need supervision and correction by both humans while she is learning the appropriate boundaries.

Pecan is a medium energy pup. She does well with a few zips around the yard with the other pups but then settles in to play with toys or snuggle on the couch. She has short little legs so we have been practicing leash walks with short strolls around the block. Overall she does pretty well on leash considering she is so young and hasn't had a lot of practice. She keeps moving for the most part but we sometimes have to encourage her to keep walking if she gets distracted by something. She has seen people and other dogs out on leash and hasn't barked at them but does like to stop and watch. She does well on car rides, though we have only had her crated in the car.

Pecan is crated when left alone. She is still a puppy and has tried chewing things like cords and the corner of the rug a few times. She has been doing pretty well with crate training as it is a big part of our daily routine. She might fuss a little bit when first crated but settles in pretty quickly especially with treats like frozen kongs or toys to keep her occupied. She is also still working on potty training. She does pretty well with puppy pads and is getting the hang of the potty outside thing, when kept on a schedule. Sometimes you have to wait her out and make sure she goes, otherwise she may go on the puppy pad as soon as she gets inside. When crated, she will need a few breaks throughout the day otherwise she will have accidents in her crate. We usually give breaks every 3 hours or so. Overnight she still needs one potty break. She hasn't been very vocal, except when playing with the other puppies so she would do fine in an apartment.

Pecan has been a super fun pup to have in our home. She is a very typical puppy and is still working on learning normal puppy things but with a little patience while she learns the ropes, she will be a wonderful family pup.
