Updates

Sport is a very friendly, energetic pup fit for all types of families! He loves humans and dogs once he gets to know them! We don’t have kids of our own, but we believe that Sport can keep up with families that have kids as young as 9. Sport can be perfect for a small family without dogs or kids as well as high energy families that are on the move! All he asks for is to be included in anything you do!

Sport has some issues with knowing how to ask to go outside to potty. His previous foster in Texas claimed he was ~80% potty trained, but he has had multiple accidents since we’ve started fostering him. We take him out regularly (any time he leaves his kennel) and he has been doing well since. He will potty without fail when he’s outside and is quickly picking up on that cue. Sport has never had an accident in his kennel.

Sport is comfortable in his kennel. He doesn’t like being in it when others are home and moving around the house but settles quickly. He’ll sometimes need some coaxing to go in. When food is involved, he’ll enter without any issues! He will whine a little in the mornings when it’s time to wake up but doesn’t throw a fit when we leave the house for multiple hours.

Sport loves getting attention from his foster parents, as well as new human friends! He has no issue getting up in their lap for a little lovin’ but has a habit of jumping up for attention – he’s cute but doesn’t have the best manners! He loves playing with the resident dogs, both of which are 50-60lbs and are 5-8 years old. He can sometimes be a little too much for them. He’s slowly learning their behavioral cues and will stop quickly if the resident dogs have had enough. He’s a fast learner and can sit whenever we ask – he will always sit for a food reward! He used to jump around when we attempted to leash him up but has made strides in sitting still since the first few days!

As much as he loves to play, Sport can settle pretty quickly. He loves to cuddle and be a lap dog. He even loves to be picked up and held! He has no problems walking on top of you if you’re laying down on the floor or the couch. A good play session will tire him out for a few hours and he has no problem falling asleep with you, in your arms.

When Sport is on guard, he tends to bark at things he doesn’t know. He has barked at things and people moving outside at a distance. Sometimes at night, he’ll behave more anxiously and bark at things he may or may not see. When Sport is playing, he can get a little nippy and jumpy. We’ve been working on keeping him on the ground when we walk by, as he has a habit of running up on you when you walk.

Sport is working on his leash manners – sometimes he will go around your legs and accidentally tie you up. A little tug will get him to reset. His first walk with us was a mess but once he gets comfortable, he will walk like an angel.

Sport has not had any interactions with cats while in our care. We have noticed that he will lunge at birds, rabbits, and squirrels if he sees them. He has a pretty strong prey drive.
