Updates

Officially adopted Saturday, June 5th!

Padme wakes up with her brothers and my husband at 5:00 am in the morning, Her crate is dry and she goes out immediately to potty. If we wait out there and let her play around a bit, she will take care of all her business. She wrestles with her brothers and plays until 6 am. Feeding time!! She runs to her crate and hops in. She will sit and wait for you to come with her bowl. They eat in the crate because they do not have boundaries with the resident dog’s food. We practice crating after eating for about 30 min. They may cry a bit in the beginning, but they settle down. After about a half hour or so, I let them out to potty and then we go for a mile and a half walk. They get water before and after eating. They play hard and nap hard. Crating to leave to run errands is much improved and they cry, if at all, for a minute or two. They respond to “settle” and know I will not open the crate until they are quiet and sitting upon my return. Padme may show greater improvement without her brother to cry with. They eat at noon and crate for about an hour after lunch. They play and sleep until dinner at 6 pm. We play until about 8 pm and then they crash. They like to snuggle until bedtime. No water after 8 pm. I wake them up to go outside one last time at 10:30 pm. We play lullaby music on Pandora to go to sleep. When she hears the music, she lays down right away. She may whimper or cry a bit but then settles for the night. She is very responsive music and she also likes soft jazz.

She loves everyone she meets. She is good about not jumping up and puppy biting is reasonable. She loves attention. She likes to be in the room you are but doesn’t need to be right by you. I think with time she will be more comfortable with staying where she is as you move around.

My five-year-old grandson loves her and she is good with him.

She plays and wrestles a lot during the day so a dog buddy would be great for her to play with. She doesn’t try to be the dominant dog so she would be a great second buddy

Padme has met dogs out walking and we have 2 resident dogs. She respects my 9 year old golden’s desire not to play but she has lots of options. She plays well with my 2 year old smaller dog. When we are out walking she is good with other dogs but we haven’t met them, just walked past. Padme does not live with cats.

She used to crate cry like her tail was twisted but has made GREAT progress with this and only does it occasionally. She responds to the word “settle” most of the time. She just doesn’t like to be alone. Once she is confident you are coming back, it occurs much less. She may struggle more as an only dog but time and patience can win that over. She is not in the crate more than 3 hours at a time with plenty of time between crate time for play and activity.

Padme was hospitalized with parvo late April/early May. Supportive care was provided and she was discharged after about a week at the emergency vet. Once a dog clears parvo symptoms, there is no risk of them coming back (as long as the dog remains vaccinated). Shortly following adoption, you may need to be a bit cautious where you bring your pup as they could still be shedding the virus for a short time following the resolution of symptoms.

Padme learned to crate cry, she is not anxious, she just thinks that gets her the result she wants. Now that she is getting a bit older, she is trying to keep settled and calmer. It’s a work in progress. Potty training is ongoing but that is to be expected with a young puppy. She walks well on a leash for a young puppy. She really is a sweetheart. She snuggles and loves her people. She gives great puppy kisses, loves to be pet and enjoys a good belly rub! She’s a snuggler and other than the occasional crate crying, she is an excellent puppy. She is calm, loving and good natured all that you can ask for in a pup!
