Nix found her forever home on July 10!

PUPDATE 4

Nix is a high energy dog with typical German Shepherd tendencies. We recommend two walks with her a day plus 30-60 minutes of play time. Once she's comfortable with you, she will play by herself but until then will need a little bit more time with you to bond. She has a lot of love to give and is looking for the right home that will give her 2-3 weeks to settle into her new home while she gets to know you. She loves her humans and will bond with them, and because she loves her humans so much she will spend the first couple of weeks missing them and seeming more anxious than she actually is. In our home she just goes and lays down by herself, will toss a toy to herself, and will occupy herself if we're busy. She will also take as much play time as you will give her! Her favorite thing to do while waiting for us is to chew on a bone or roll a ball to herself.

Nix is great with dogs and would enjoy having regular social interaction with them. She lives with one currently, with frequent dog visitors, and continues to play and enjoy the time. Nix lives with three cats and does great with them. She mostly ignores them. One cat adapted to her very quickly (within 1 week) while another cat did take up to a month due to her size. I would recommend for the cat's sake, a slow introduction. Nix will respect their wishes and leave them alone. One time she spooked a cat and the cat swiped at her, and she just stood there and took the hit so as to not hurt the cat. We call her the gentle, kind of clumsy giant.

Nix is great in the crate and it is her safe spot. We haven't tried having her free roam yet but are looking to do so with how comfortable she is now in our home. She will often go there for treats, feeding time, and when she knows she needs to settle because of how comfortable the space is for her. She's mastered the off command and is pretty good about not jumping on furniture now unless you invite her up. She also no longer cries when we come home or leave. We're working on shake, over, and spin as commands to keep her mind busy.

PUPDATE 3

Nix played with a 3 year old, a 5 year old, and a 6 year old child this past weekend and is really good with kids! She is very patient and keeps all four on the floor, even while waiting for them to toss the ball for her. She is very gentle and doesn't show any of the jumping tendencies she has when she gets really excited for you to come home. We've been working with her on lay down, crawl, and leave it which she has mastered. She's quickly adding to her list of commands and is very eager to please for a treat, toy, or pets on the head. We're also working on having her jump on command, which is greatly reducing her jumping on items like furniture and people. She has this super cute habit now of sitting on her hind legs and putting her paw over your arm so she's not jumping up on her humans when they are sitting on the couch. We're still working on her not jumping directly on human beds without any type of permission. We're also finding as she gets more comfortable she is settling and relaxing more. She's able to play by herself a little bit more and is content chewing on bones. She's still a snuggle bug and has been creeping slowly closer to the cats, who are begrudgingly letting her lay next to them on the dog bed!

PUPDATE 2

Nix is learning fast and has added leave it, dance, and off as commands. Also, she picked up ringing a bell from our puppy if she’d like to go to the bathroom. Her recall is great and she has shown she can be trained easily.

She is still working on her jumping when excited but has made a marked improvement. She is such a sweetheart and clearly just wants a home where she can play with her owners and snuggle them.

PUPDATE 1

Nix is a total sweetheart who thinks she is a giant lapdog! She is high energy and would love to play with humans for as much time as they'll give her. In her downtime she loves snuggling with other animals in the house and laying next to her humans.

Nix is great with people inside the house. She can bark at individuals coming out of cars but quickly settles if outside the home. She does not bark while on walks at people coming out of cars, only if they are on the property. Nix has no exposure to children under 12.

She is high energy and needs to be in a home that will exercise her daily. Nix does pretty well with a couple of walks per day and 30-60 minutes of play time. She does also burn off energy by playing with our puppy. One of the cutest things she does is throw her toy down close to your feet until you pick it up and play with her :)

Nix is great with dogs and loves playing with them. If she doesn't know a dog well, she can do a little resource guarding (keep away) or whine when they get close to her food but that behavior goes away in 2-3 days. She will often try to play tug with other dogs and loves to play chase with them. She reads dogs' social cues well and will leave them alone if they no longer want to play. Nix is very trainable and is looking for someone to spend some dedicated time working with her to keep her mind occupied.

Nix gets along very well with cats. She respects their boundaries and will snuggle them if they let her!

She does get anxious when you leave but relaxes quickly. She can be vocal but will settle after a minute or two. We leave a toy in the crate with her. She welcomes you back with a smile and a cry of joy!

We are working with her on her jumping on people and furniture when not called but she is picking up on that fast!
