Nami is one of the sweetest pups you will ever meet! She will follow you around just in case you have three seconds to scratch her belly and will nicely ask for more if you stop! She loves to run and play and be active outside and is also happy to snuggle with you on the couch.

Wherever you are is where she wants to be! No, seriously. She really does want to be wherever you are and has quite a bit of separation anxiety around this. She does not like it when she is "left," like when someone walks away from her. She whines and becomes anxious when someone in the vehicle gets out and she is left behind, even if there are still other people in the car. She does great walking away from you with someone (like at the vet!) but she doesn't like to be left behind. That said, she has had to be alone at times, such as when her fosters have had to go to work. She stays in her crate during these times because we are unsure what she would do if left to roam. She does not like the crate but small tricks like putting a blanket over her crate and turning on a fan for white noise, plus giving her long-lasting chews or toys have helped her be successful in this area. She is food motivated and will go in her crate more willingly if there is some cheese waiting for her in there!

Nami needs lots of attention in the way of pets and belly rubs, exercise, mental stimulation, and just having companionship. She is used to being able to go outside to potty every 2-4 hours. She would not do well in a home where she was left alone for 8-9 hours per day. She has never been crated longer than 5 hours and did have an accident in her crate at that length of time.

Nami walks fairly well on a leash but she does pull quite a bit and needs reminders to not pull her person along. She has some leash aggression when we approach other dogs while walking. She has lived with other dogs previously, though, so she may just need slow intros to new dogs, but we cannot confirm at this time how well she would get along with other dogs. She also occasionally tries to go after a bird or a squirrel while we are walking and it takes a minute for her to be redirected. She does need a good amount of exercise each day, whether that be walks or running in the yard. Given her love for going after birds and small critters, she should not be left outside on a chain or lead as she would be likely to injure herself. Her exercise needs to be in the form of several walks per day and/or a fenced yard to run in. Fun fact: this dog knows how to play tag and it is SO FUN!

Nami was thought to have some food sensitivities but is doing well on a sensitive-skin dog food. She was diagnosed with a skin infection at her spay appointment and may not actually have food sensitivities, but we are keeping her on the same dog food while she finishes treatment for her infection. She also loves peanut butter sandwiches and cheese!

Nami is an exceptionally loving, gentle, and smart dog, but she is a mix of hunting and herding breeds, so she has some unique challenges that way. If you can find a way to give her what she needs, she will most certainly be your best friend and cuddle buddy for life!
