Milo found his people July 28, 2021!
Milo likes to go for a nice walk shortly after waking up, followed by his breakfast, after which he naps most of the morning, enjoys his mid-day walk, and naps a good part of the afternoon with intermittent bone chewing. Milo is most active in late afternoon and into the evening, so he would like to be able to go for a nice, long walk and some more chewing on toys.
Milo loves to meet people, both in the home and outside on walks or in public - everyone he meets is a new person to give him some love! Milo has come a long way toward kindly greeting people coming into the home and does an awesome job with slow intros on neutral territory and then the new people giving him some treats and attention once inside.
Milo got the opportunity to interact with kids (age 6-12) several times while staying with a sitter for a few days. He absolutely loved getting the chance to play with them and follow them around, and loves getting lots of pets and attention! No exposure to cats.
Milo has been on an exercise restriction while he's been with us, however he often has glimpses of an active, playful puppy poking through his calmness. When he is able, we are sure Milo would love lots of activity and exercise. He does well on a leash with use of a harness, but could use some ongoing training with this as he gets excited by all the new smells he finds outside.
Milo does great with other dogs when on walks, and tends to only react with barking when another dog initiates it. He is easily redirected by a tug to keep walking in the right direction. Milo also did well with another dog in the home when visiting a family dog for the day - he was interested in meeting her but generally left her alone and kept to his own play.
This is one area where Milo could use some continued work as he has demonstrated some separation anxiety in his time with us. Milo does better when left in his crate, however does still show some signs of anxiety. We have been working on this by trying to make the crate a safe and calm place to be and have been trying to get him used to it by putting him in there for some time when we are home.
As he has been on an exercise restriction and medication for the duration of his stay with us, we have not had a chance to see his fully active self. We believe that, while he does have a lot of energy when not on medication, he is very well behaved if he can get the exercise and attention that such a good boy deserves.
