When we let May out of her crate, she snuggles in bed with us while we drink our first sips of coffee. After a quick trip outside, she's ready to eat and then take a nap. We take her to the park to play or to our rural property. May loves water and is developing confidence swimming. Her Labrador heritage encourages her enthusiastic and determined retrieving. Afternoons and evenings are lazy, but she loves to interact with us before it's time to go to bed.
May will either bark at strangers or greet them without hesitation. We have been introducing her to people in her space indoors and outdoors. May is not aggressive or fearful when she barks, and if she does she warms up to strangers within a minute. More exposure to strangers will be important in her forever home.
She's been with 8- and 10-year-old kids who've enjoyed playing fetch with her. May is not good about releasing her toy but she's also gentle when the toy is taken from her.
May isn't demanding about exercise but certainly benefits from the effort. She's very good on leash. She is not a fan of car rides.
May loves to play with other dogs indoors and outside. She does not react on leash when other dogs are in sight or present. A previous dog sitter noticed May has some dominant personality traits so slow intros to new dogs are always best. Fetch is always in favor of slow intros to allow dogs time to settle in. May has not met cats.
May can be trusted alone, once she has surfed the kitchen counters (a real Labrador!)
She was changed from a generic dog food to a limited ingredient dog food to help her allergies. Her new food has greatly reduced her itching but adopters should continue working through her allergies.
May is a wonderful dog and has progressed significantly in the short time we've had her. She was very slow to warm up to us, but she is now eager to meet and interact with new people. She is a people pleaser, obedient, smart, easy to train and attentive. She is an excellent companion.
