Updates

Sweet, smart, and good-natured, Mary has been a joy to have around. She usually gets up around 5:30 a.m. for a quick potty break in the fenced-in yard and then we go back to sleep for another couple hours. Then it's breakfast and time in the yard playing with my 15 pound dog, pouncing on plastic squeaky toys, and rolling in the grass. She naps throughout the day and does well in her crate when I’m not able to supervise her. Her favorite things include playing with my dog, chew toys, squeaky toys, and bully sticks. We have a similar routine for dinner and she winds down shortly after. We do very short walks and she's good on a leash, but they just don't seem to be her thing.

Mary's a bit shy at first, but not scared and has done very well around people she's met both inside and outside the home. She has not had exposure to children while in my care.

Mary is medium energy level and prefers to get her exercise running around the yard and playing with my dog versus going for walks, but she does well on a leash.

She absolutely loves my 15 pound terrier mix and they play very well together, although I'm teaching her "calm" so that they can both take breaks or they'd play indefinitely. She hasn't had much direct exposure to other dogs since I've had her, but has previously done well at doggy daycare. She has not had exposure to cats while in my care.

When I first got her, she would bark/whine when left alone. I practice leaving her alone for various short lengths of time both when I'm home and not at home and she's greatly improved. Because of her history with being vocal, she would probably shouldn’t live in an apartment or house with shared walls with neighbors.

Mary is still young and learning the ropes, but she is smart and eager to please. Using her daily meals, she's learning sit, down, off, look, leave it, come, and stay.
