Maddie found her people on November 10, 2020!

Maddie is the sweetest little pup! Her day usually begins with a trip to go potty at 6:00 a.m. or so. She comes back inside for breakfast and some play time with our family. She goes out to the backyard for play and potty breaks every two hours or so, and mostly chills out, naps, or plays with her toys inside throughout the day. She has dinner around 6:30 p.m., then she has a last potty break before we go to bed at midnight.

Maddie's foster family includes four children ages 6, 6, 8 and 10. She is not a snuggler, but loves being petted and relaxing and snoozing on the floor near us. She is an adorable napper and makes some sweet sleeping squeaks. She can get into puppy mischief (stealing shoes, slippers, blankets, pillows and gnawing on things she shouldn’t) when unsupervised but is easily redirected by giving her approved toys instead. She can be a little jumpy/nippy, but again, is easily redirected and we’re working on these behaviors. She has learned to sit and is working on “come” and other commands. She responds well when redirected and is very gentle.

She is a medium energy dog who gets her workouts by exploring/sniffing our fenced backyard, playing with the kids, and taking short walks through the neighborhood. Maddie is working on leash training and does best with a harness, as she can pull. She is sometimes fearful of cars while on a walk.

Maddie has not been exposed to cats. On walks, she is sometimes afraid of other dogs when they are far away. She’s met a few neighborhood dogs, and does well with them when they are nearby, sniffing and striking a play pose. She is unafraid of our three neighbor dogs, who frequently bark at her through the fence.

She has done well in her crate for several hours at a time while we're gone. She tolerates being in the car but is anxious on car rides. We use lots of love and a few treats to make her comfortable, and she seems to be improving. Maddie is very comfortable sleeping in her crate at night. She also retreats to her crate to nap or chill throughout the day.

We've been calling Maddie our Texas Lovehound, since she and her three sisters were rescued from a Texas roadside, and she's super-lovable and sweet. She's had a few accidents indoors but is doing very well overall with potty training. Maddie will be a great companion and will likely do well in a home with or without children or other dogs. She seems to be pretty adaptable to most situations if given time and attention.
