Little Joe found his forever home on July 15!
Little Joe wakes up between 7-8am. He goes outside to potty, and then will sometimes eat his breakfast. We'll go on a mile and a half walk together, and he'll snooze pretty hard until about noon. He'll go out again and go for a little walk around my apartment complex, come back in and chew on his bone or play with his toys for a bit, then he'll hop back on the couch for a snooze cuddled into his human as close as he possibly can. He eats dinner around 7pm and goes out on last time between 10pm-11pm. Little Joe will sleep through the night, but if he cannot see his humans, he will whine until you acknowledge him. Once he's sure you're there, Little Joe will go right back to sleep.
Little Joe loves people. When he sees people walking by him, he'll go up to them for some pets. When Joe sees people outside the window, he'll bark to let you know they're there. He can be redirected when he barks like that. Little Joe's favorite spot is on the couch with his people or on their lap. He has no exposure to children.
He is a medium energy dog. Little Joe enjoys his little walks around the apartment complex (approx. 0.2 miles), and he's gone as far as a mile and a half on a hilly path. At least one mile long walk a day would be good for him, but he also does well with short walks during potty time. He does well on his leash, but he loves exploring and marking so much that he often needs reminders to keep walking. We are working on leash reactivity with other dogs. He will bark and growl if another dog gets too close. Little Joe lived with his brother before he came to Wisconsin but has had no exposure to dogs inside the home while in foster care in Wisconsin. Little Joe has no exposure to cats.
Little Joe loves his humans so much that he will cry on and off when they are gone. He has been left alone for up to four and a half without any incident. We are working on our confidence that our human will come back when they leave. Little Joe has some separation anxiety and would do best with a family who can be around.
He is being treated for Anaplasma with a round of antibiotics. He does not show any active sign of infection. He would benefit from a dental in the next 1-2 years due to tartar accumulation. In the meantime, Little Joe can get dental treats to prevent further accumulation.
Little Joe is the biggest cuddle bug ever. He loves his humans, and he loves to be close to them. He is the sweetest boy, and he would do well with people that are around often.
