PUPDATE 2
Now that we’ve had Lilah for a couple of weeks, she has really started to settle into our routines. When we work from home, she takes naps on the couch all day or finds some squeaky toys to toss around by herself. Once the work day is over, we really start to see her puppy energy. She loves when we throw toys or balls for her in the yard (even though she will eventually decide it’s more fun to play keep away). She also likes to chase our resident dogs (two 50 pound huskies - one male and one female) around the basement or toss toys in their face to get them to play. She hasn’t been chewing on anything that she shouldn’t be, however she is easy to redirect, especially if there are some squeakers or treats around. With Lilah being very food motivated, she has a lot of potential for training. She has started to learn to wait at the doorway before going outside and to stay on her dog bed while we grab treats so she doesn’t plow through us or the other dogs. Just be prepared for lots of drool if you make her wait too long for a treat! We have discovered that she is afraid of noises like lawn mowers, leaf blowers, and garbage trucks. With a little encouragement and direction from the other dogs, she has been working on her confidence when she can hear those sounds.
We recently learned that Lilah lived with a cat in her Texas foster home!
PUPDATE 1
Hi there, my name is Lilah and I am a 7 month old Great Dane Mix. I am a lovable and outgoing girl who still has some growing to do.
My foster parents let me sleep on a dog bed in their bedroom overnight, mostly because my crate is so big and doesn't fit in the bedroom. I like to snuggle up with my toys all night before I wake up around 7:30 am. When they leave for work, they do put me in my crate because I might try to eat my toys when left unsupervised. Even though I'm still young, I don't usually need to use the bathroom throughout the night.
I LOVE toys! I wish I could play with them all day long. Most of the time I like to squeak them on my own, but when I want my foster parents to play I will push the toy onto their lap or against their back. I also love food! So much that sometimes I can't control my drool. My foster parents keep a few towels around the house so they can clean me up, and also clean up the floor. They put my food in a slow feeder so I don't eat too fast and sometimes they will use the food as training treats which I think is so fun! I have been learning about "place" and "leave it." I am learning "place" because I always want to be at my foster parents feet and sometimes they trip over me.
Walks are so exciting that I can pull pretty hard on the leash. My foster parents have been trying to teach me how to focus on them during walks, so I am not pulling too hard. One time on a walk I saw some young kids. I was really interested in meeting them, but my foster parents say that I shouldn't be in a home with children under the age of 8. I don't like when people pull on my ears, so much that I might use my mouth to tell you "no." Sometimes when I get really excited and want my foster parents to play with me, I will jump on their laps and use my mouth to get their attention.
I love other dogs, especially ones that want to run and wrestle with me. I have two foster siblings who aren't very interested in playing with me, so I'll just grab a toy and play with my foster parents then.
My foster parents say that I am always making them laugh. Apparently when I am sleeping I make noises that sound like a donkey. My foster mom likes to take pictures of me. She says I have the cutest big brown eyes and the floppiest of ears. I am hoping I can find my forever family soon and be able to share my goofy personality with them too.
