Leo found his forever family on May 16, 2021!
Leo goes outside to go potty when I wake up. We then settle in together on the couch for some petting while I finish waking up. He then alternates roaming my apartment, napping, and lounging with the occasional petting session while I'm working. He seems disinterested in playing with toys and ignores them when I try to get him to play with them. He follows me around and stares up at me with his big brown eyes- begging to be loved on. This is sometimes accompanied with grunting and a wiggly butt.
We try to take an afternoon walk, with the occurrence based more on my schedule than his willingness to go on a walk. I feed him in the evening and give him a Greenies dental treat a day. Trips outside to go to the bathroom are done as needed. He gets pretty excited when I ask if he wants to go outside and runs over to the door. When it’s time for bed, I corral him into his kennel after taking him outside. Leo doesn't initially want to get in his kennel but the second I get him in he immediately starts laying down and then is fine to stay in until morning.
Leo's interactions with other people while under my care has been only with people we've come across on walks and were not long enough for me to form an impression. I have not observed him around children.
He is somewhat low energy, content to spend his day lounging near me. Leo should have a regular walk. When he is on a leash, he doesn't pull and keeps up with my walking speed and intended directions.
While under my care, Leo has not had sustained interactions with other dogs. When we've been outside the home on walks, he has wanted to say hello to the other dogs we've come across. He has no exposure to cats while under my care beyond staring at a neighbor's through a window.
Leo lays down somewhere to nap or just relax when I'm busy working or taking care of something. He also has been content in his kennel when I've left the home.
The Wisconsin vet noted Leo’s ideal weight is 12-14 pounds. He will need a family to help him reach his weight goal. Leo will need a dental in the next 6-12 months for his teeth. In the meantime, the tartar accumulation can be slowed with daily dental treats like Greenies.
I think Leo would likely be fine to free roam when left home alone. He hasn't gotten into trouble when I let him roam when I've been home, but he mostly sticks close to me.
