Updates

Layla was adopted on March 25, 2021!

I wake up around 6am and Layla stays in her crate until we are ready to go outside at about 6:45am. We go for a 10-15 min walk and then she has breakfast and playtime with my resident dog. She is crated in the morning and afternoon while I work, with another 15-minute walk and more playtime during lunch. We go for a 2-3 mile walk in the evening, dinner, playtime, another potty break and then back into her crate for bedtime around 9:30pm. She sleeps through the night without waking up. Layla is very good in her crate, loves to run around and play with my resident dog. She doesn’t want (or know) to take breaks when she is playing, so I’ll give them a break if their play gets too intense.

Layla greets people with a bark and trying to jump on them (which we are actively working on). She does bark at people and dogs when we are on a walk (which we are also working on). She loves her people and will come to you for a pet or to throw a toy or ball.

She has been around a 13 year old, and she happily greeted him by trying to jump on him. I have not seen her with young children. She will need help learning not to jump.  From my experience, I think Layla will do well with ranges of children - she is goofy, loves to play and chase.

Layla is medium energy. She loves to play and go for a walk, but she is also calm and quiet in her crate. However, she does pull on her leash. We are using a prong collar for walks, which is working well.

Layla loves the resident dog in our apartment. She will play and play with her, wrestling, stealing toys, chasing. She doesn’t necessarily know when to take a break, so I will give her a rest during playtime. As mentioned above, Layla barks at dogs on leash, which I think can be successfully addressed with training support and consistency.

The shelter staff indicated Layla was known to chase cats.

Layla takes a few minutes to settle down and cried a little the first few times that I left her.  However, she will quiet pretty quickly and is crated while I am gone.

We can her lovable Layla because she is such an incredibly sweet dog. She really likes people and will come to cuddle when you are on the couch. Layla will make a great addition to your home.
