Updates

Happily ever after for Hunt as of February 25, 2021!

PUPDATE 4

Hunt has started attending Dog Dog Daycare to work on his confidence and socialization skills with other dogs. The staff said that Hunt is a great pup to have around and is very friendly with both people and other dogs. He really enjoys the space to run free and playing with other dogs his size!

PUDPATE 3

Hunt has only been introduced to one child and he was quite nervous about it. He mostly tried to hide behind his foster, but when approached by the child he did growl. Hunt did great when slowly introduced to the parents, but at this time he would do best in a home without young children.

We have begun to run short distances together, and Hunt seems like he would make a great running partner! He can get distracted in new neighborhoods from time-to-time, but can easily be directed ahead with some gentle encouragement. He also LOVES playing fetch! Right now we can only play in a small apartment, but he does great and seems like he would really thrive in a home with a yard or near a park.

PUPDATE 2

Hunt is very good around people on the street. He alternates between ignoring them or wanting to sniff at their hands and say “hello”. He can be a bit jumpy, but I think that has to do with the fact that he’s still a puppy.

Hunt is still a young pup so he’s learning appropriate dog behavior. He gets very excited on walks when we see dogs close by and will bark and jump quite a bit. We are working on this, but I think he needs more controlled exposure and socialization with friendly dogs. Adopters will need to help him continue this journey of leash manners and making friends!

We’re happy to report Hunt lost at least one of the retained teeth so he now has just two retained deciduous canine teeth.

PUPDATE 1

Hunt loves sleeping in his crate and could probably sleep quite late into the morning without needing to go outside but we typically wake him up between 7-7:30 am to eat breakfast and go outside. He loves all food and treats! After eating Hunt usually naps for a few hours, then we take him outside again. He spends most of the day alternating between playing with his many toys (he loves his bone and squeaker toys!) for a few hours and then napping. He is usually good about playing only with his toys, but he can be quite curious with remotes and miscellaneous paper. He loves to nap on our laps and likes to be as close as possible! We take him outside every 2-3 hours during the day, and he’s easily able to sleep through the entire night. Hunt loves long walks and exploring Madison! We put him to bed in his crate around 9:30-10 pm and he sleeps through the night without making a peep.

Hunt was a bit nervous of people at first, but he is slowly learning that people are friendly and just want to give him love! He’s gotten much better and is starting to like the attention.  Hunt does get a bit excited in new locations which can cause him to urinate.

He can be a bit jumpy on new people, but we are working on that. He has a lot of love to give!  He hasn’t been introduced to any children yet.

He is medium energy. Hunt loves to play with toys but tires himself out pretty quickly. We try to go on two short walks throughout the day, and one longer walk in the evening. He seems to love these walks, even in the cold! Hunt is new to walking on a leash but is doing so well! We’ve even tried to run short distances and he does well but will need more practice. Hunt tends to get quite excited when he sees rabbits and raccoons outside. He is a very curious pup, so he does get distracted sniffing things especially in new areas.

Hunt has not been exposed to dogs inside the home, but he did quite well at the vet with other dogs! He tends to bark and jump a bit when we see dogs close by outside, but I think he just needs more exposure and play time with other dogs.  Hunt hasn’t met any cats yet.

He is a curious pup and when left unsupervised he can get into boxes/items that he should not. We put him in his crate when we are gone, and he does do incredibly well in there and tends to just nap or chew on a bone.

Hunt eats a bit fast, so we try to feed him 3 smaller meals throughout the day rather than just breakfast and dinner. Hunt is a love-bug and loves attention! We moved his bed next to our desks so that he could be closer, and he seems to like that a lot! He also knows he’s a handsome boy and loves to stare at his reflection. Hunt is such a loving pup and would be a great addition to your home if you’re looking for a new best friend!
