Hal found his family on September 27, 2020!
Since Hal is such a good pup, he can adjust well. His day is pretty low key - if you’re home he likes to be wherever you are. Eating is a really exciting time for Hal but he has been training to sit and stay before going to his bowl. Trying to go on a short lunch time (and after dinner) walk seems to go well to get out a little puppy energy. Late in the afternoon, Hal might get playful and likes someone to play with him. A squeaky, soft toy ball is his absolute FAVORITE! After his play time, he’s typically ready for a nap in his comfy dog bed.
He enjoys people, especially women. Sometimes when we take a walk and encounter an adult male, Hal can be uncertain. He might stop in his tracks and just wait. Once he gets positive attention from people then he is good to go.
The vast majority of Hal’s fostering time has been with older teenagers and adults. While outside he has watched neighborhood children ride bikes and run around. He likes to watch them pretty quietly - he’s generally curious as to what they are doing.
Hal is such a good, easy going puppy! He definitely prefers a harness for walks. Anytime you want to give him loving attention, he is all for it! He’s a work in progress when taking walks, but he’s a fairly quick learner - so a semi-consistent routine to practice will help him. Getting out for short walks twice a day maintains a good balance.
Hal met a few new dog friends. One was smaller than Hal, but mostly they have been bigger dogs with more medium to low key energy. That puppy excitement can show - and he likes to follow the dogs around (probably hoping they play with him). If a big dog barks loud and consistently at Hal, especially when out walking, then Hal is not a fan. He might need some reassurance to be held. Hal has spotted two female cats around the house - this pup is very curious! What are these creatures and do they like to play? Unfortunately for Hal, these females like their space.
The crate works best. He feels relaxed and safe in his crate if no one is home.
Hal would make great company and cannot get enough belly rubs! If you have treats, he’s very motivated! A salmon-based food agrees better with his tummy. Chicken based food irritated his skin and ears. There’s never been a better pup to ride in the car. He lays down like a sweetheart in the car and you hardly know he’s there.
