Adopted March 28, 2021!

Gizmo and I live together in an apartment downtown. We wake up between 5 and 6AM (Gizmo is an early bird) and take a half-hour walk around downtown. He does his business outside and then I let him rest inside for about half hour before giving him breakfast. He likes to save a bit of the breakfast to eat later around noon. During the morning he often lies down on something comfortable like his bed or the couch and he will go with the flow with whatever you are doing or would like to do. He enjoys being near you. If I need to concentrate when I am working from home and have virtual meetings, he will just lie down and rest close to me. He enjoys belly rubs on the couch while I am having a zoom meeting. I try to play fetch with him using his tennis ball 1-2 times during the day and he enjoys physical activity. He also loves to chew on toys, especially if he can "rescue" the squeaker form the inside. We go out for a walk again at noontime (15-20 min. walk) and then again at 4PM. He has supper between 4PM and 5PM. He often does poo in the morning and then again during the 4PM or night walk. He is a gentleman when it comes to doing his business outside and staying quietly in his crate when I leave home for a bit. He likes to eat when I'm eating and lies next to me when I am watching TV. At night, he likes to sleep in his bed next to mine.

I have introduced Gizmo to four new people, and he is very friendly. He can be a bit nervous at the beginning but then he warms up and is a total sweetie.  Gizmo was introduced to a three-year-old girl and he did great. Again, he can be nervous at the beginning but then he warms up.

Gizmo has medium energy all around. He goes with the flow with what you are doing and can stay quiet if you need to work or have a meeting, but he does enjoy physical activity. Gizmo likes playing fetch with his tennis ball 1-2 times daily and he enjoyed running with me in short distances. I am not a runner, but I made the effort to run with him about one block in distance and he was happy.

He lived with another dog (a fellow young beagle) in his Texas foster home and did well.  Gizmo does not have cats in his foster home.

I've only left him in his crate when he's alone and Gizmo has done excellent. He might do a nervous bark as I am leaving the apartment, but then he relaxes, and he is sleeping quietly in his crate when I'm back.

Gizmo knows "wait", "stay", "zoomies" (for going outside), "good job" and "chew time". He hasn't responded to "sit" with me, so we've been working on that command.

Gizmo was found wandering around East Texas in January of 2021. He might be nervous and shaky when meeting new people or entering new environments because he's been through a lot, but he can quickly adapt and is super friendly and a sweetheart. He loves hugs and kisses and is an excellent companion!
