Updates

Adopted on January 21, 2021!

Gixxer wakes up, goes potty, plays with resident dog in the yard. He then eats breakfast (always eats all the food--fantastically sloppily haha), snuggles and goes for a 30 minute walk.  He really enjoys dental chews or a bone after, snuggles some more, might nap or follow you around the house. Gixxer has more playtime in the yard to get the zoomiez out and sometimes another walk. We are working on basic command training with treats. He eats dinner and gets more random potty breaks all before joining the fam in bed. Rest & Repeat (:

He can be hesitant and fearful of new people. New people can make him uncomfortable as he will growl--however no obvious aggression. When Gixxer is outside on walks, he intently stares and sometimes barks at people we pass.

Gixxer has no known exposure to children under the age of 15.  He did fine when my 15 year old sister stayed over.

He plays in the fenced yard with my resident dog--lots of running plus 1-2 walks per day. Overall, he stays near your side when walking but can pull at times--he is easy to correct. We stop upon any encounter of a vehicle, person, or animal (which we have only had small doses of this--population 500 people)--this works well--slow pets help him stay cool around the foreign stimuli. Additionally, he will ball up on the couch, even snuggle you once he knows your safe.

Gixxer barks at neighboring dogs when he sees them out--the same when we walk. Him and the resident dog get along very well--it's quite sweet. There is no food aggression. We currently only allow toys for play when outside as Gixxer seems to get more possessive of his toy when inside--with time this could change.

He does have interest in the cats, so we have never left them unattended together--but thus far he'll follow and sniff but is easily redirected so he doesn't end up spending too much time paying attention to the meowzer.

We leave him crated when gone--Gixxer will growl as his way of saying he doesn't want to kennel up, but we have been working on this...some days he'll walk right in and others it's the opposite. Once we return to let him out, he will be barking/growling from his kennel--as soon as you open the door to let him out, he expresses his joy to see you! We’re uncertain how Gixxer would do in an apartment setting.

All we know is Gixxer had a ruff start in life. He was victim of a hoarding situation. He tends to be fearful and anxious at times. He was then housed at a shelter as a pair--but they were separated. Then fetch found him and he found me. For all that he has been through he is doing tremendous, I am amazed at his progress every day. Gixxer is already growing and learning how to be a happy dog in a healthy environment. So please, always, be mindful, kind, and patient-- he will love you forever! Gix is all about his scratches!
