PUPDATE 2

This week, Frida has been practicing her doggie skills and getting lots of new experiences. Until the past week, Frida hadn't met any kids, but now she's met 10 that are two+ years old. In general, we noticed that Frida tends to be pretty friendly around kids but is more cautious around them than she is adults. She was lucky enough to meet a group of kids who were very excited to play with her but didn't always have the best dog handling manners. She handled this like a pro, staying calm and kind the whole time.

Some of the skills she has been practicing are leash walking, basic commands, and potty training.

Frida loves sniffing around and seeing new things on her walks. Sometimes she becomes very interested in the things she sees and does not want to continue walking, but with a treat or two, we can get her back in motion. For the most part, she does a great job walking next to us and keeping the leash loose.

The basic commands Frida is practicing are "sit," "down," and "look." She can do these fairly consistently with hand motions but does not know them well enough to do them without. We have also recently introduced "come."

Potty training has been going really well with Frida! She continues to let us know when she needs to go out, and she almost never has accidents anymore. Woohoo!

Frida is such a happy pup, and the more comfortable she gets at our house, the more she loves to play around, snuggle, and explore. She would be a fantastic addition to any family!

PUPDATE 1

Frida wakes up early in the morning to play with her sister (dog) and eat breakfast. She is crated with her sister while we are at work but has a potty/play/lunch break in the afternoon. After we work, Frida loves to play hard and nap hard. She goes to bed around 9 pm and spends the night in her own kennel.

Frida is pretty friendly when meeting new people. Sometimes she needs a moment to warm up to them, but for the most part, she loves giving kisses and saying hi!  She has not had any exposure to children with us.

She loves playing with her sister. They wrestle and chase each other around. Frida is also perfectly content playing on her own. She really enjoys exploring, especially outside. There are times that she will spend 15 minutes walking around our backyard and sniffing. When she tires out, she will snuggle up close with you for a while and then eventually move to her own spot.

Frida is just starting to practice going on walks. She really likes to chew on her leash, but once we start walking, we don't have to encourage her much to keep moving. She does have a lot of work to do in terms of learning "leash manners."

She plays really well with her sister, though sometimes she does want to take a break from the wrestling/chasing so that she can chew on a toy. When she has met other dogs, she warms up pretty quick and will initiate playing. Frida really likes to chase/follow other dogs, especially if they are bigger than she is.

Frida has not has any exposure to cats in our home.

Right now, we kennel Frida with her sister when we are away. She does awesome with this! When we leave or come back, we never hear them whining, and there are never accidents in the kennel. At night, Frida is in her own kennel. She wakes up once or twice a night, but usually doesn't whine. If she does whine, she usually needs something (like to go out), or she just needs help soothing herself. Frida also does not have accidents when she is in the kennel alone.

Frida is currently working on potty training. Recently she has had an upswing in remembering to ring the bells to go out, though she certainly still has accidents. Sometimes when we take her outside to potty, she will sit by the door or walk around for a while instead of relieving herself right away.

Frida’s mom had a DNA analysis showing 50% bull terrier, 25.1% chow chow, 8.1% American foxhound, 6.0% German shepherd, 10.8% supermutt. We do not know the breed of Frida’s dad. Check out the last photo above for her mom!
