PUPDATE #4

Flash is a sweet Basset mix looking for his forever home.  He and his brother were separated upon arrival in WI and he immediately bonded with our Corgi mix, Bear.  When Bear goes to daycare Flash is somewhat forlorn.  His TX foster also had other dogs.  He would do well in a home with another dog he can play with and room to run.  He is great in a car and sleeping at night.  He will sleep through the night either on your bed or on a doggie bed/in a kennel.

He is medium to high energy and loves walks and play sessions throughout the day.  He has lots of puppy curiosity and energy.  Flash will bond with family and follow them around.  He sometimes plays by himself, but prefers to be where the action is.  He is very affectionate and would prosper in a home with lots of love and attention.  Everyone that meets Flash immediately loves him.

We are working on his walking skills and he is improving daily.  He is very food driven so treats are helpful during training efforts.  He as a typical puppy so he does not have free run of the house and we keep an eye on him as everything lying in his range of reach is free game for tasting and playing with.  He sometimes forgets his size and big feet and can unintentionally knock over a smaller dog (or child) so he needs to be supervised during his puppy stage.  We haven’t seen any aggressive behavior from Flash; only licks and belly rubs.  He’s a fun, sweet boy.

PUPDATE #3

Flash continues to settle into his new foster home and routines.  He is doing better on walks, but still likes to pull towards and play with any dogs he sees.  Those basset paws have good traction!

He is learning that walks are also for pottying, particularly no. 2, and he is getting much better at it.  When let outside on a lead he goes no. 1 very quickly and runs in for a reward.  He seems to be learning much from our resident dog.  He needs lots of chew toys to satisfy his puppy nibbling and is also happy playing by himself.  He continues to play with our corgi mix, but sometimes forgets his size and has to be reminded not to overpower him.  He responds well to the word “no.”

Flash is very affectionate and loves to follow us and our dog around the house.  He is generally a very happy and sweet guy and will make a fabulous pet once he matures and his puppy exuberance is trained.  He is very smart and learns quickly.  He also has a bit of a naughty side like sneaking socks out of the laundry basket or chewing on papers, but we laugh at his puppy-eyed embarrassment when he is caught.

Like most labs, he eats very quickly and searches for things to eat.  This is also a common habit of dogs who have been a stray so we keep an eye on what he might be chewing on and swallowing.  He continues to be an amazing sleeper and loves to cuddle with his foster family.

PUPDATE #2

Flash arrived safely from Texas and quickly settled into his new foster home.  He is a great sleeper (in or out of kennel) and very affectionate.  We keep him in a kennel when away from the house and sometimes he goes in there on his own for some personal quiet time.

Flash loves to snuggle.  However, he is still a puppy and needs lots of chewing opportunities like Nyla bones and stuffed toys.  He loves to play with his Corgi foster brother and is very friendly when meeting new people.  We are working on puppy jumping and licking as well as improving his walking skills.  He sits when asked and takes his treats very gently.  He loves to eat!  He has a typical basset bark.

PUPDATE #1

Flash usually wakes up about 7 am and we immediately let him outside on a leash to go potty. He gets a treat for success. He is a typical hound and will be hungry in morning. So we give him his first meal and he will still look for more goodies to eat around the house. We keep lots of Nyla bones and rawhides around for him to chew on. He is a healthy balance of a chill and mischievous puppy throughout the day. Sometimes he lies on a poof for a nap and other times he is playing with our dog, his toys and running zoomies. He gets 1-2 walks during the day. He settles quickly at night. Sometimes he sleeps with us, but he is a bit of a bed hog so other times he goes in his kennel. He is usually down for the night by 10 pm.

Flash loves people. He is exuberant when meeting others and sometimes tinkles a bit as he gets so excited. He usually rolls on his back for belly rubs. We are working on his jumping.

Flash has had no exposure to children in our home.

Flash has medium to high energy. He is strong and wants to walk fast with those big hound dog paws. We take him for two walks each day and playtime in the house and outside. He is good at catch/return. He still pulls on leash and wants to go towards any dog he sees.

Flash is great with other dog in house but can be overly rough during play given size difference. Once they settle down they follow each other throughout the day.

Flash has had no exposure to cats.

We place Flash in a kennel when left alone and he whines a bit at first, but when we get home he is usually lying there quietly. When home we limit his accessibility until he shows he is not going to eat anything or have an accident. He only had a no. 2 accident once, but that was before he learned how to do his duty on a leash.

Flash is a loving dog and will benefit from some structure, puppy training and warm/positive reinforcement. He sometimes gets lonely without another dog so another doggy playmate would be wonderful!
