Meet Duke, a handsome adolescent cattle dog mix with a big personality and the most perfect ears. Duke loves everyone he’s met. He welcomes guests into our house and immediately asks for pets. He also currently lives with two dogs and loves to play with the younger one.
Smart and extremely food-motivated, Duke is easy and fun to train. He apparently thinks kibble is the greatest thing that exists in this world. He has some classic cattle dog traits and adolescent behaviors, so he won’t be the right fit for every home, but for the right family or active individual, he’s an amazing companion.
A day in Duke’s life:
Morning: 45-minute walk to start the day
Playtime with resident dog, then breakfast
Crated during the workday
Evening: yard play, then free in the house with occasional playtime
Dinner
Night: a chew and cozy hanging-out time
Duke’s ideal home is active and consistent, and can provide daily exercise, mental stimulation, and continued training. Duke needs a home that’s more experienced with dogs of his breed mix and age, who can continue to guide him toward becoming a thoughtful adult who makes his own good choices. He can get overexcited when seeing dogs, but would love to live with compatible dogs after a proper introduction and if the dogs are consistently separated for food, as he can guard meals and chews.
