Meet Drager, a wise and gentle senior Australian Shepherd with a heart full of love to give. Despite the challenges that come with aging, Drager is looking for a retirement home where he can enjoy a peaceful and loving environment. This special dog has a few health needs, but his affectionate nature and loyal companionship makes him a wonderful addition to the right home.
Drager appears to be a classic Australian Shepherd with a soft, beautiful coat that reflects years of experience and wisdom. His soulful eyes show a deep connection with the world around him, and despite being a bit older, still carries himself with the grace and dignity of the breed.
Drager has a calm and gentle demeanor, making him an ideal companion for someone looking for a relaxed and loving dog. As with all Australian Shepherds, loyalty is at the core of Drager’s personality. He is happiest when by your side, whether during a quiet evening at home or a leisurely stroll to the mailbox.
He shows his age in his health: he has had several teeth removed, is recommended to be on kidney support food, and has arthritis in his back hips and pelvis. He is otherwise in good spirits and loves spending his time wandering around the yard, basking in the sunshine, or lounging at humans’ feet.
Drager is looking for a quiet and loving home where he can relax and enjoy his golden years. A family or individual who understands the needs of a senior dog and is willing to provide the extra care he requires would be the perfect match. He would thrive in a home with a calm environment, where they can enjoy gentle walks, cozy naps, and lots of love. He lives with dogs and cats currently and just ignores them and they he; he has no interest at this time in playing with anyone, just being with his people and lots of comfy naps!
Open your heart to this special boy who has so much love left to give, and you’ll gain a loyal and loving companion who will cherish every moment with you!
Update!
Drager has been with my family for the past two weeks. He has settled in well and my two resident dogs don't mind the extra company. Drager is around 9 years old, a beautiful Australian Shepherd with a fox-like tail (brown, black in the middle and a white tip) that he wags and honestly, it looks like a fox tail. He's very floofy and soft.
Drager is very quiet, except when he is hungry. Then he will woo-woo at you to let you know it's time to eat. I feed him in the morning before I go to work, and then at night when I come home. I've only heard him bark a couple of times, and that's been when my resident dogs are barking for no apparent reason. And if he's ready to come inside and you're taking too long, he will knock on the patio door to make sure you haven't forgotten him. A fenced in yard is ideal for him as he tends to wander off course a bit and this keeps him safely where you can see him. He doesn't require a lot of exercise - short walk around the neighborhood, putzing around in the fenced in back yard seem to be just enough for him.
He loves looking out the window - because he is tiny, I have a pillow he stands on so he can see outside. I have an orthopedic bed that he looooves to lay on. He is crate trained and house trained. Absolutely no accidents whatsoever. You'll have to bribe him with treats (and perhaps use a slip lead) to get him inside the crate, but once in there, he's as quiet as a church mouse. He can probably free roam, which he does when we're around. I have a neighbor that lets him out mid-day as I am gone for 10 hours, and he is a little older. He would make a great work-from-home buddy!! He has a crate in the living room (for days i am working) and one in my bedroom (for sleeping). He also loves to make a bed out of towels, a pillow and a blanket and lay on that as well.
He's like a ninja, as his paws barely make a sound as he makes his way across the floor. He does have some arthritis in his hind legs for which he takes Glucosomine once daily. He does ok when there are 2-3 stairs, but struggles a bit when there is a metal transition at the top, much like one you would see at the top step into the house from the garage. I have carpet in the bedrooms and LVP with throw rugs. He will slip a bit on the floors, but gets back up and keeps going.
I would keep him in a heartbeat if I could, but that would deny you and your family your perfect forever. Come meet him and see! 🐾♥
