Dinka marks January 31, 2021 as his happily evet after!

PUPDATE 2

Dinka has been slowly but surely stepping out of his comfort zone! He has been a champ at getting into the car and is beginning to relax more while riding. Today we drove to a parking lot near a busy street to just watch the cars and people go by, and he did a great job calmly spectating. He’s also doing much better walking past cars too! He definitely still gets nervous but is doing a much better job sticking by my side. He also got his nails clipped and dremeled the other day and did awesome!

Dinka’s favorite activity lately has been chasing our jumbo rope tug! He loves to run after it and then prance around the yard with it. We’ve also been sprinkling in some recall, sit and down while outside and he’s been doing amazing! He’s quite food motivated, and especially loves Happy Howie’s!

PUDPATE 1

A typical day for Dinka includes a morning and evening walk, free time to sniff around the yard or play with his favorite soccer ball, hanging out with his humans and napping in his crate while we're at work. He's also been working on learning some basic obedience and building his confidence! He has been a rockstar learning commands like place, sit, down and even recall!

Dinka can be a little skeptical about strangers when out and about, but quickly warms up to people as he spends more time with them. Dinka has not met children in his foster home.

Dinka is a low-moderate energy dog. He gets two 15-20min walks per day along with some free time in the yard to sniff or play but is otherwise very content lounging around the house. Dinka walks wonderfully on leash in quiet neighborhoods but will need some extra guidance and time to work through busier areas.  Dinka is reactive around cars and pedestrians, as he is very unsure about them and gets anxious. He is getting better as he works on it, but still has a way to go. This sweet boy lives in Neenah, WI with his foster family.

Dinka lived with 4 other large dogs previously and could do well living with another dog in the home. He is neutral to the neighbor dogs outside in the yard and is okay seeing other dogs on leash, but he would prefer a little extra space if he needs to pass by.

Dinka stayed with a dog sitter a few days at intake. The home had two resident cats, but separated by a gate. He was just curious about them and calmly laid down to watch them eat. He was bigger than the gate, could have easily gotten to them if he wanted. We did see a cat outside that Dinka tried to chase, but it was dark and the cat ran into a bush. I don't think he even knew it was a cat, just something he saw run and wanted to check it out more.

Dinka is crated when we are not home and does very well.

He was treated with antibiotics for anaplasma but shows no clinical signs. Adopters should continue flea/tick and heartworm preventatives year round.

Dinka is such a sweet boy! He's been working hard and making progress building confidence around new sights and sounds while on walks, and will need a little help from his new family to continue working on this as well!
