Updates
Chevy gets up with my dogs at 6 am and goes outside. She eats in her crate to prevent any issues with my resident dogs. She goes out again with my dogs. She usually snoozes through the morning. Chevy gets her zoomies between 4-6 pm so a fenced yard, good walk or a dog park would be appreciated. She is not high activity dog but she is a young adult and will need a way to appropriately use her energy. She eats again about 6 and goes outside after dinner and again before bed at 10 pm. She snoozes and snuggles through the evening. She barks at the door to indicate she needs to go out.
Chevy has been great meeting people and comes right up to them. She also has my resident dogs to help her feel at ease when people come up. She is a snuggler and likes to be by her people.
I have a 5 year old grandson who she loves to see. She tends to want to jump up on you but with some training she has been learning quickly the command “OFF.” She is not in their face and very appropriate. She does not mouth people.
Chevy is a young adult and has times during the day when she has energy and 10 minutes of zoomies. She plays with toys outside but only chews on ropes and toys inside. She needs someone to teach her how to play fetch and to play tug with other dogs or humans. Chevy walks well on a leash and harness. She could use a little more training in this area but she learned quickly in the short time she has been with us.
Chevy was raised with other dogs. She was an owner surrender to the Sheriff’s department due to the home having too many dogs. She gets along well with my 10 year old Golden Retriever. She is very respectful of her age and desire to play. She plays well with my 3 year old Chi mix dog. She picks up well on other dog cues. She would make a great 2nd dog.
Chevy has been left out for an hour while I was out of the home and has also been crated for 4 hours. She hasn’t been alone for a whole day while in my foster care. I always leave a peanut butter kong to distract her and music.
Chevy is a barker when she is afraid or sometimes at nothing at all. My resident dog barks a lot more than she does. She can stop when given “settle” command and have her sit by you to distract her. We also tried the Dr. Trainer bark collar using the vibrate/buzz noise (no shock) with success. She doesn’t bark all day long, it seems to be more of an issue in the evening and more often noises on the TV (Horse hooves, strange noises) I think she just needs reassurance that everything is OK. Chevy could possibly manage an apartment if she wasn’t home alone for too long or had a dog buddy to hang with. The apartment would have to be more sound proof or a smaller facility. Music helps to mask new sounds that spark the barking. She could also live in an apartment if the adopter is committed to working with her to ease her fears and using a bark collar, if necessary.
A cyst was noted at her veterinary exam in March. Fluid was removed and the vet believes it is consistent with a benign cyst.
Chevy is a very sweet, social dog. She is very easy going and learning commands and dog manners very quickly. She was allowed to bark a lot and is learning to put that in check. She will need someone who will be patient and help reassure her. Huge gains in a very short time have been noted. She is good with people, dogs and children. She chewed a hole in my dog’s bed but other than that, has only chewed on dog toys. She has slept on our daughter’s bed and in the crate. She naps on our couch most of the day. She loves belly rubs and is not a big licker. Chevy loves reassurance that she is doing the right thing.
