Updates

Apollo starts the day by hopping up on the bed for some snuggles, then runs around the yard for a bit before breakfast. He goes on a mile walk, then settles down in his crate while I go to the office. He gets more time playing in the yard and a short walk at lunch, then kennels up again until I'm done with work. Another 1-2 mile walk in the evening, dinner, and more time playing fetch or just zooming around the yard. He loves being out in the cold, but will come inside without too much fuss when offered some tasty treats. Apollo settles down for the night, usually choosing to sleep in his crate with the door left open.

Apollo LOVES meeting people in all situations. He has a hard time controlling his excitement and will jump up and try to hug people. While this is very sweet, he hasn't realized that not everyone wants 60 pounds of fluff covering them with affection, or that he could knock some people over with his enthusiasm.

Apollo loves children as much as he loves adults, but he can be a bit intense for younger children who are not used to dogs. Very sweet and friendly, but doesn't realize he should turn it down a few notches with smaller folks.

Apollo has a lot of energy, but is pretty good at letting it out at appropriate times. He loves zooming around the yard in the snow, and could walk all day, but is content with 2-3 miles of walks and several play sessions out in the yard to run all-out. He is pretty good on leash, and will heel well if the leash is kept short. When given a longer leash, he starts to follow his nose, and will occasionally pull if something catches his attentions.

Apollo is friendly with all other dogs he's met. He does great with medium and large dogs who share his energy and enthusiasm. He might be a bit much for older dogs and smaller dogs who aren't interested in playing. He loves to meet other dogs on walks, but he also listens well when we need to walk by without saying hello, or when it is time to move on with a walk after greeting.

Apollo has not had any off-leash exposure to cats. He was introduced to several cats while he was supervised on-leash, and was overstimulated by the experience.

Apollo has been doing pretty well crated when left alone. However, he does still whine or get anxious when crated some times. The only time he is vocal is when he is left in his crate and isn't ready to settle down for a nap, when he will sing the song of the huskies. He does settle down eventually. Early on, he escaped from a metal wire crate, and he has since been more relaxed and secure in a plastic airline style crate.

Apollo went through heartworm treatment prior to coming up to Wisconsin and has since tested negative. He also tested positive for Anaplasma, a tick-borne disease, in early December but is not showing any clinical signs. A positive result for Anaplasma just indicates antibodies to this bacteria, not necessarily active infection. Per our rescue protocol, he was given a round of antibiotics. Apollo also has a fractured canine tooth and has an appointment scheduled for extraction in early February.

Apollo is a very friendly, easy-going fella. He'd love a family who likes winter activities as much as he does!
