Bruno found his forever home on July 14!

Meet Bruno! Bruno LOVES attention!  He is a very sweet dog and although he is small, he has quite a bit of energy.  He’ll happily take long walks, hikes, or spend the day playing with other dogs.

Bruno’s day starts about 6:30 am when he gets let out of his crate (where he sleeps) and goes outside immediately.  He loves running around the yard first thing in the morning.  After his morning potty break he comes back in and has breakfast. For the rest of the day he usually plays with other dogs, plays in the yard, or chews on a bone.  We have our own dogs and also do some doggy daycare in our home, so Bruno has been exposed to lots of new dogs while in our care and he generally gets along with other dogs.  He can be pretty insistent on playing and some dogs may find this overwhelming.  He can sometimes get possessive about toys or bones.  However, in general, Bruno does well with other dogs and enjoys playing with them.

Bruno is an energetic pup and would do best with an active family.  In our home, he is active in one way or another most of the day unless we crate him, finally settling down to chew on a bone towards in the evening as the day is winding down.  He is crated at night for bedtime and settles down quickly for bed when the house is quiet.  However, it takes him longer to settle down if we crate him when we leave the house or if we are still around the house and he is crated.  He is mostly quiet in his crate while we are away, but he does bark for a bit when first crated.  Bruno is fully potty trained and hasn’t shown destructive tendencies when left alone, so Bruno might need to be crated long term if that is what his forever family preferred.

Bruno has come a long way on his leash manners.  When we first started fostering Bruno, he would get worked up on walks if he saw people, other dogs or small animals.  To help him settle down and learn to walk respectfully, we have been using a prong collar for him on walks.  The prong collar has really helped Bruno walk better.   We are happy to talk to potential adopters about how to use prong collars as we use one on our own dog.

Bruno went to a sitter for a few days and did very well in a new environment.  The sitter had an older child who cuddled and snuggled him all the time and let him sleep in her bed. He loved all the attention and he did well sleeping in a human bed. He met two dog-friendly cats at the sitter’s house and wanted to chase them at first; however, he quicky adjusted to the cats and learned not to bother them.  In our home, Bruno lives with a two year old child and loves to give her kisses (as he is the perfect height to do so).

Bruno is very athletic and likes to jump and run. He can jump very high straight up in the air. We are working with him to settle down and listen to the commands we give him. He knows “come,” “sit,” “off,” and “up.” He catches on quickly, especially when treats are around and when there are less distractions with other dogs.  As a young pup, he would benefit from a basic obedience class to continue polishing his manners.

Overall, Bruno is a sweet, friendly pup who would love an active family that will continue to work on his manners so he can be the best dog he can be.
