Beatrix found her forever home September 22, 2021!
Beatrix (“Bea”) is a sweet, medium energy pup looking for her forever family. Bea was recently returned to Fetch after her prior adopter realized she could not keep up with Beatrix due to the adopter’s worsening health issues.
Beatrix is very friendly with new people. She has been an ambassador dog at a few Fetch events and she loved meeting new people and getting lots of pets. Bea’s favorite thing is to give kisses! She could stand to learn some boundaries with this, but she really loves to get right up in your face and give you a lick. Beatrix currently knows the commands “sit,” “come,” “stay,” “kennel” (which she obeys with the help of treats), and “off.” While Beatrix doesn’t have any behavioral issues to note (other than jumping up on people), as a young dog, she would benefit from a basic obedience class to learn to be the best dog she can be.
Beatrix currently lives with her foster parents and our two-year-old toddler. Beatrix does well with our active, sometimes grabby and loud toddler and is very tolerant of her. She is excited to meet kids outside of the house. Beatrix has also been exposed to lots of other dogs of all ages and sizes while in our care, as we do some in-home doggy daycare and have two resident dogs. She has gotten along well with all of the dogs she has met. She really loves roughhousing with our younger resident dog, who is about Beatrix’s size and she loves zipping around the backyard on squirrel hunts with the other dogs as well. As a terrier mix, Beatrix has a high pray drive and in her prior adoptive home, killed several small animals in the yard (with the help of fencing that was very enclosed). When she’s not playing with the other dogs, Beatrix enjoys chewing on a nylabone, cuddling on the couch, or snoozing in a dog bed.
Beatrix is a medium energy dog. In our home, she gets lots of activity by playing with the other dogs, running in the yard, and going on walks. Beatrix has not demonstrated any bad behavior (like chewing on things she shouldn’t) while we have been fostering her, which may be due to the fact that she gets lots of exercise and has dog friends to keep her company in our home. However, in her prior adoptive home where she was an only dog, her adopter noted that Beatrix would get bored and chew on things she should not chew on. Beatrix’s future adopter should be aware of this tendency, especially if she will be an only dog again. Like most dogs, Beatrix is best behaved when she gets enough exercise and stimulation.
Beatrix completed heartworm treatment in early summer. She should not have any long-term health issues as a result of having heartworm, but it is important that any adopter be committed to giving her monthly heartworm pills so that she doesn’t get reinfected. Beatrix also has a narrower than average trachea. Again, this isn’t a big issue but an adopter should be okay with walking Beatrix on a harness rather than just with a collar to avoid choking Bea or causing her to cough.
Beatrix enjoys going on walks around the neighborhood and does well on leash. She isn’t reactive to dogs or people that we pass on walks and doesn’t pull. Beatrix rarely barks (she may bark in the house at the doorbell or someone knocking at the door, but stops when told to do so) so she may be a good apartment dog.
Beatrix is crated at night and when we are out of the house. She is quiet in her crate and sleeps through the night. However, we have left Bea out of the crate several times when we have left the house and she was fine being left out as well. Bea is fully potty trained.
Come meet sweet Beatrix today!
