Banjo found his forever momma May 18th!

PUPDATE 2

With a little bit of familiarity and routine, Banjo has really started coming out of his shell! He's attended Waggin' Tails Doggy Daycare for a few weeks now and he's quickly become a staff favorite. In his foster home, he is the smallest and most laidback pup [he lives full-time with three pups who average 50lbs and are pretty high energy] so a few days of daycare a week gives him a chance to play with dogs more his size and speed. He hasn't met a dog he doesn't like, he's just a little bit of a shy dude who isn't quite sure what to do with a foster sister who likes to jump over him while sprinting at top speed!

He's also decided people are okay after all - especially if they have snacks for him! When he spies a human that he wants to interact with, he'll confidently march up and ask for pets. But, if you stop petting before he's ready, he also won't be shy about putting his paw on your arm and asking for more! Now that he's settled into his foster home and his initial nerves and the excitement of living with other dogs has passed, his marking behaviors have significantly decreased. He's proven he'll need a few days to settle into his furever home, but once he's comfy, he'll make himself right at home!

He loves to spend his time lounging in a warm but shady spot or curled up on the deck napping the afternoon away. When he's not relaxing, he loves joining his foster family for a hike and taking in all the new smells. Have we mentioned he's excellent in the car? He hops right up into his crate, lays down, and rides quietly [mostly naps, let's be honest!] the whole trip. This handsome guy is looking for an adventure buddy by day and a snuggle partner at night - could this be you?

PUPDATE 1

Banjo sleeps in his crate until his foster family gets up - generally sometime between 7-9 a.m. He loves spending time outdoors and taking in all the sights and smells! During the day, he either hangs out in his crate or relaxes in his foster mom's office. He enjoys playing with the other pups in his foster home from time-to-time but does just fine on his own, too. He also prefers his daily walks for his energy outlet rather than puppy play time.

Banjo can be a bit slow to warm up to new people but is making progress on this daily. He reads the energy of the room and benefits from calm, confident energy. He relies on someone to advocate for him and assume control of the interactions -- if you're confident, he's confident! He benefits from consistency, and he would prefer a calmer home without frequent visitors coming and going.

He does not have exposure to children but is easily frightened by quick movement; would do best with no kids. May do okay with older kids.

Banjo went through heartworm treatment and is just coming off four months of crate rest/exercise restriction. We're still building his stamina back up but seems to be on the lower-medium end of the energy spectrum. He enjoys being outside and looks forward to his daily walks -- right now, each walk averages about a mile-mile and a half. He's very excited about all the new smells, and does pull a bit, but is also making progress on this daily. He walks currently on a martingale collar; he has also benefited from a front-clip harness. He loves watching and chasing birds!

Currently, Banjo lives with a small pack of dogs. He does just fine with them, but they're not a requirement to his lifelong happiness, either: He could be a great sibling to a low-key pup, but also content to have his furever human's undivided attention and affection. He appears to not have a lot of previous experience living with other dogs and he does wear a belly band when roaming our home as he has a tendency to mark. We also have more pups in and out of our home than the average dog owner. :) He has lived in a dog-free home before and did not mark indoors. Banjo does not live with cats.

Banjo is crated when home alone and quickly settles in.

He was treated for anaplasma with a round of antibiotics but does not currently show any signs of an active infection.  Banjo will need a dental in the next 1-2 years due to tartar accumulation.

Banjo is a shy young man looking for a laid-back home that will help him continue to become his best self. He'd love some space to run and explore, but is also content with his daily leashed walks. Or if you're looking for a hiking and maybe even camping buddy, Banjo and his love of the outdoors may be just your pup!
